Dem Party in Michigan Calls for Hanging Trump Supporters 'By the Neck Until Dead' Who Are 'Trying to Make Donald Trump King'

Remember eight years ago when Democrats insisted that Donald Trump’s rhetoric was dangerously inflammatory?

That was then—this is now.

Welcome to 2024, where a Democratic Party official not only made social media posts advocating for the lynching of Trump supporters but later went on talk radio to defend those statements, even after they were taken down.

According to The Midwesterner, a conservative-leaning Michigan publication, the comments were posted from the official Lenawee County Democratic Party account by its chairman, Bill Swift.

Screenshots of the now-deleted posts reportedly stated that “anybody who is trying to make Donald Trump King is a traitor who should be hanged by the neck until dead.”

In a response, Swift further justified his remarks, writing, “We’ve been consistent about this before the election. Presidents are not Kings and anybody trying to make a president a king is a domestic enemy of the Republic and a traitor who deserves the full measure of punishment as outlined in the Constitution of the United States.”

While the U.S. Constitution does specify treason as a capital offense, voting for a legally qualified candidate is not an act of treason—nor does the document advocate that Americans be “hanged by the neck until dead” for political choices.

Typically, in these situations, the offending posts disappear, social media accounts get deleted, and the person behind them fades into obscurity.

Bill Swift, however, took a different approach.

On Saturday, he called into Talk Back Radio, a local program, and defended his posts, claiming they were removed because others “might do violence to people in our community” in response.

Rather than backing down, Swift argued that he was “outlining a very rational argument” about what should happen following Trump’s inauguration.

He also accused Trump supporter Elon Musk of repeatedly making “a deliberate, very clear, unambiguous Nazi salute” during his speech at a post-inaugural rally at Washington D.C.’s Capital One Center.

This claim has been widely debunked—but that didn’t deter Swift.

He further insisted that Musk “has transformed his social media empire into a right-wing Nazi echo chamber” and that the inaugural celebrations represented “a transformative moment in American history.”

“What we had on Monday was a Nazi rally for our presidential inaugural,” Swift declared.

Swift’s rant continued, linking immigration enforcement to Nazism and claiming that federal agents operating in his county were “Nazi collaborators.”

“We’ve received reports of ICE operating in Lenawee County today. It should be understood that in the context of an illegitimately and unconstitutionally elected insurrectionist president who ran on Nazi rhetoric and who had what was, in effect, a Nazi rally for his presidential inauguration that the agents of ICE that are operating in our county today are properly defined as Nazi collaborators,” Swift asserted.

He then suggested that “the necessary moral preconditions” had been met for the “extra-constitutional removal” of Trump, his supporters, and even Supreme Court justices who ruled in his favor.

Swift didn’t stop there—he issued another chilling statement targeting Trump voters.

“This is the last dance for people that have decided that they’re going to embrace or apologize for or ignore what’s happening, this Nazi takeover of our country.”

While Swift holds office in a county of fewer than 100,000 people, his rhetoric is indicative of a broader issue: the selective outrage over political speech.

For years, Democrats have condemned “dangerous rhetoric” from Trump and his supporters. But while a handful of rioters on January 6 chanted “Hang Mike Pence!”—without any means to act on it—Bill Swift, by all appearances, is dead serious.

He may not have the power to carry out his threats, but his words could inspire someone who does.

Despite these extreme statements, the story has remained largely contained within Michigan media. Swift, meanwhile, remains unapologetic.

On Monday, he took to Facebook once again, writing, “If anyone is unclear on the change in tone coming out of this pie hole just understand that I’m kind of not that interested in educating, informing, or otherwise reaching out to the folks that see billionaire Nazi salutes at the insurrectionist’s Inaugural celebration and makes excuses or post still pictures of Democrats caught waving,” according to The National Desk.

“The facts are the fascist facts. You are what you support and uphold,” he continued. “You have made your stand. You stand with Nazis. We don’t owe you respect. We don’t owe you explanations.”

The takeaway? Democrats once framed Trump’s rhetoric as a grave danger to democracy. But when one of their own explicitly advocates for mass political violence, silence reigns.

A man wearing a Viking helmet and face paint was deemed an existential threat to democracy. Yet Bill Swift—who openly talks about executing Trump supporters—remains in office.

One can only hope law enforcement is paying close attention.
