Fox News Makes Huge Announcement, Body Blow to CBS, NBC, ABC

Greg Gutfeld, a standout figure at Fox News, has significantly outperformed his late-night competitors, drawing more viewers than hosts from the major three networks despite having a smaller potential audience. This week brings news that's likely to exacerbate concerns for ABC, NBC, and CBS.

Fox News announced on Thursday its decision to renew Gutfeld's contract, ensuring his show "Gutfeld!" remains a staple of late-night television for the foreseeable future.

The specific duration of the new contract wasn't disclosed, but even a single-year extension poses a challenge to the major networks, which have seen a decline in millions of viewers as "Gutfeld!" continues to attract a growing audience.

In addition to his role on "Gutfeld!", the host is a familiar face on the network's talk show "The Five" and is set to occasionally host and produce content for Fox Nation, according to the announcement. Highlighting the show's success, the press release emphasized that "Gutfeld!" tops all late-night shows in viewership, boasting an impressive 2.2 million viewers and leading in the key 25-54 demographic, surpassing programs like CBS's "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon," and others.

The first quarter of 2024 marked "Gutfeld!" as the top-rated cable news program in the 25-54 demographic for the first time in its history.

Suzanne Scott, CEO of Fox News Media, praised Gutfeld for his distinctive commentary and humor, noting his significant impact on the audience over 17 years. Greg Gutfeld expressed gratitude for the creative freedom Fox News has offered him since he joined the network in 2007, acknowledging the platform's unique support for his authentic expression.

Since its inception in 2021, "Gutfeld!" has seen a remarkable 47% increase in viewership, including a 10% rise in the 18-49 demographic, surpassing CNN and MSNBC combined. The show is particularly noted for attracting a diverse and affluent audience, including a significant number of Democrats and Independents, showcasing its broad appeal.

Gutfeld's critical stance on various issues, including a pointed critique of President Joe Biden's Ukraine policy, has resonated with viewers. His sharp commentary and fearless approach have bolstered his ratings, demonstrating a significant shift in late-night television viewing habits.

As Gutfeld continues to redefine the late-night landscape, his success serves as a testament to his appeal and the changing preferences of viewers, leaving traditional networks to reevaluate their strategies in the increasingly competitive space.
