Jasmine Crockett’s Campaign Faces Federal Investigation Over Potentially Fraudulent Donations
Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett, known for her "far-left" stance and outspoken nature, is now under scrutiny by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) regarding her campaign finances, The Daily Signal reported.
The probe stems from a complaint filed by the Coolidge-Reagan Foundation, a conservative watchdog group, which flagged questionable donations made through the Democratic fundraising platform, ActBlue. FEC Assistant General Counsel Wanda D. Brown informed the group that “the respondents will be notified of this complaint within five business days.” She added, “You will be notified as soon as the Federal Election Commission (FEC) takes final action on your client’s complaint.”
Attorney Dan Backer, representing the Coolidge-Reagan Foundation, confirmed to The Daily Signal that “the FEC opened an investigation," noting that "there is a process, but they are investigating."
At the center of the inquiry are 53 individual donations, totaling $595, made under the name of 73-year-old Texas resident Randy Best. However, a video posted by Crockett’s opponent, Sholdon Daniels, reveals Best’s wife claiming she had no knowledge of these contributions — raising suspicions about potential fraudulent activity. The FEC complaint points out that “Rep. Crockett, through her principal campaign committee Respondent Jasmine for US, has received thousands of other donations through ActBlue totaling over $870,000.” It further questions, “It is unclear how many of these are similarly fraudulent transactions, made in the name of unsuspecting innocent people who did not actually provide the funds.”
This is not the first time ActBlue has faced allegations of misconduct. Previous accusations suggested that the platform may have been involved in "laundering foreign campaign contributions."
As reported by The Daily Signal in January, “Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue may have raked in millions through fraudulent donations, according to the testimonies of elderly Americans who said federal election records do not reflect their giving.”
A review by Dominic Rapini, a cybersecurity executive and former Republican candidate in Connecticut, found that 18 elderly Democrats allegedly donated a staggering $1.9 million to Democratic causes through hundreds of thousands of small donations from 2016 to 2024. Rapini told The Daily Signal, “When I examine the donation patterns tied to these alleged ‘smurfs,’ the irregularities jump off the page, revealing behavior that defies both human logic and common sense.” He stressed the need to "confront these anomalies head-on" to "safeguard trust in our election process."
Wisconsin Republican Rep. Bryan Steil, chairman of the House Administration Committee, noted the issue’s national scope. “In response, last fall, I shared the findings of our investigation with several state attorneys general,” Steil said, adding that his committee remains “fully available to collaborate with any state law enforcement officials” interested in pursuing the matter.
Examples from FEC records add to the controversy: one elderly woman reportedly stated, “I can promise you I have NOT made donations myself to the [Democratic National Committee] or Democratic local party since 2016 …” insisting that any subsequent donations must be "fake and/or manipulated."
In another instance, a 91-year-old woman was listed as having made 2,591 donations totaling $41,000 — yet she signed an affidavit with Rapini, denying ever making those contributions.
Despite the mounting concerns, ActBlue maintains that its platform adheres to strict security and "ethical standards." A post on its website asserts:
“ActBlue is proud to serve as a trusted platform that empowers small-dollar donors to legally and securely contribute to political candidates, political action committees, and other political and nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations. Our robust security program and strict fraud prevention measures help us rigorously protect donors’ information, root out potentially unlawful foreign contributions, protect donors from financial fraud, and flag other potentially unlawful or fraudulent activity.”
As the FEC’s investigation unfolds, questions continue to swirl around ActBlue’s practices and the integrity of donations flowing into Democratic campaigns.
