Judge Just Dealt Alvin Bragg Major Blow In Trump Trial

On Monday morning, the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg encountered obstacles in his case against former President Donald Trump, as he was prohibited from presenting key character evidence.

During the trial's initial proceedings, District Judge Juan Merchan ruled against Bragg's attempt to showcase the infamous Hollywood Access tape to the jury.

This tape captured Trump engaging in what was termed as "locker room talk," a private conversation with a host. Bragg sought to use this footage to illustrate Trump's attitude towards women, particularly in light of corporate fraud charges related to a hush money payment to an adult film star.

Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass argued that the video contained "extremely salacious evidence that’s very, very, very prejudicial." Consequently, Judge Merchan decided that only the transcript of the tape would be admissible, citing concerns about its potential prejudice.

In the recorded conversation, Trump is heard making controversial remarks, including the infamous phrase, "When you’re a star, you can do anything," followed by a graphic comment.

Another significant piece of evidence, a video from E. Jean Carroll’s defamation case alleging sexual misconduct against Trump, was also rejected by the court.

Ahead of his trial, Trump utilized his court appearance to rally his supporters, suggesting that the prosecution's efforts were politically motivated.

He released a video on Truth Social and X, platforms aligned with his narrative, claiming that the prosecution aimed to silence him and his supporters.

Despite operating under a gag order, Judge Merchan and his daughter, a Democratic strategist, have inadvertently fueled Trump's defense efforts, resulting in significant fundraising.

Notably, a recent event at Mar-a-Lago raised $50 million, doubling the proceeds of a previous Biden gala attended by prominent figures like Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
