ABC Gets Called Out for Sneaky Pre-Debate Poll Trick: 'Trying to Set Up a Particular Narrative'

It would almost be impressive if it weren’t so alarming in its sheer audacity.

Believe it or not, mainstream media is pushing hard for the Democratic presidential nominee—Vice President Kamala Harris—just ahead of Tuesday's much-anticipated debate with former President Donald Trump.

While this is typical behavior for Democratic loyalists, this situation comes with two significant issues:

  1. The media outlet in question is hosting the debate.
  2. This media network has a history of not hiding its anti-Trump bias (more on this later).

ABC News is set to host the major debate between Harris and Trump on Tuesday, and, as expected, they’ve already started spinning out-of-context "good news" about Harris.

On Monday, ABC News published an article—just a day before the debate—highlighting Harris’ rising approval among "likely voters."

The article, after noting that polling between Harris and Trump is "virtually identical," goes on to claim that a "closer assessment shows movement to Harris in some groups when comparing all adults with likely voters—particularly, those younger than 40, younger women, and black people."

And here we go.

"This analysis, produced for ABC News by Langer Research Associates, finds that support for Harris goes from 54 percent of all adults younger than 40 to 64 percent of those identified as likely voters," the article continued. "Trump’s support, meanwhile, drops from 42 percent of adults in this age group to 33 percent of those likely to vote."

To spare you from reading ABC's "poll," the entire article was highly questionable—and it's not hard to see why.

Missing from ABC's report was crucial polling information like sample size, margin of error, and dates.

That information? It was buried in a completely separate article from September 1, which basically made the same claims as the Monday article.

Predictably, ABC News was called out on social media for this misleading approach.

Washington Examiner correspondent Byron York noted that while these numbers might have been accurate at one time (the original poll was from August 23 to 27), the fast-moving election cycle means data from late August is outdated by the second week of September.

"Posted this morning, this appears to be based on an ABC poll conducted August 23-27," York posted on social media platform X. "ABC didn’t do a new poll to set the stage for its own debate?"

Another user on X criticized ABC by pointing to Nate Silver’s poll models—none of which look favorable for Harris.

Reporter Rusty Weiss was equally shocked by ABC’s decision to present the data as "new" or even noteworthy.

"Holy s***, you rubes," Weiss wrote on X. "This poll was conducted last month. And new polls—even left-leaning ones—now show Trump back in the lead.

"Weird how that’s not mentioned at all in your report. Almost like you’re trying to set up a particular narrative heading into your own debate."

This brings us to the other major problem with ABC News’ clear bias.

If this was just about one poll and the strange decision to rehash it before Tuesday’s debate, it might be easy to dismiss it as just routine Democratic cheerleading.

But, as anyone can see, this is not an isolated incident that raises questions about ABC's biases—or their “particular narrative”—against Trump.

First, there were reports that ABC News had given “assurances” to Harris’ team that certain debate rules would be adjusted in her favor.

(In fairness, ABC has denied these reports, but the fact that they’re so believable says a lot.)

Prior to that, there was an even bigger warning sign when ABC News host Linsey Davis casually linked Trump to the Ku Klux Klan.

No big deal here … except for the fact that Davis is a debate moderator.

If these events occurred individually, one might dismiss them as just bad days for ABC News.

But taken together?

It reeks of corruption … and it’s clear former President Donald Trump is walking right into it on Tuesday.
