AOC Accused of Misleading Filings Over Fiancé’s Status

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is once again under scrutiny — this time from the House Committee on Ethics — for deceptively labeling her fiancé, Riley Roberts, as both her “spouse” and “not her spouse” on official congressional documents to sidestep ethics rules and financial disclosure requirements.

According to a blistering July 2025 report, the New York socialist congresswoman described Roberts as her spouse when it suited her — namely, to attend the glitzy 2021 Met Gala — a lavish event notorious for its elitist guest list and anti-American cultural messaging. But when it came time to report his financial holdings, which could expose conflicts of interest, she conveniently claimed they weren’t legally married.

“The Committee… found evidence that Representative Ocasio-Cortez listed Mr. Roberts as her ‘spouse’ on paperwork filed… although the two were not legally married,” the ethics panel noted.

Yet, AOC refused to include Roberts as a spouse on her financial disclosure forms, allowing her to dodge transparency requirements that apply to legally married members of Congress — rules designed to protect the public from undisclosed stock trading and potential corruption.

“She was not disclosing Mr. Roberts’s financial interests as is required of Members who are legally married,” the report stated.

This is just the latest chapter in a growing list of ethics issues for AOC. The same committee previously ruled that she violated House rules by failing to pay fair market value for her now-infamous designer dress, shoes, and jewelry worn to the 2021 Met Gala — where she hypocritically strutted in a gown reading “Tax the Rich” while attending as a guest of billionaire-funded Vogue.

She was ordered to pay $2,700 in additional reimbursements to vendors. According to the report, the investigation will be closed only once all outstanding payments are completed.

The committee also blasted Vogue editor Anna Wintour for inviting both AOC and Roberts — further blurring the lines between elitist influence-peddling and congressional privilege.

Despite AOC’s attorney insisting that she and Roberts are not legally wed, the ethics committee highlighted how Roberts received access and benefits reserved for congressional spouses — including a Capitol-issued spouse pin that grants access to restricted areas.

“Mr. Roberts has had a spouse pin since the Congresswoman entered Congress in 2019,” the report states.

In other words, AOC used the “spouse” label when it benefited her — for elite events and travel perks — but avoided it to keep Roberts’ finances hidden from public scrutiny.

That’s especially alarming given Ocasio-Cortez’s loud public calls for a total ban on congressional stock trading — including by spouses. Yet, it remains unknown whether her own fiancé-turned-“spouse” holds investments in companies operating in her district or in industries influenced by her votes.

The timing of this ethics bombshell is notable, as AOC’s national ambitions are no longer a secret. The 35-year-old Democrat has hinted at challenging Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in 2026 and remains a top contender for the far-left in 2028 if President Trump’s reelection campaign steamrolls Democrats again.

For now, Ocasio-Cortez continues to tour the country with self-avowed socialist Bernie Sanders on their “Fighting Oligarchy” roadshow — while dodging transparency at home.

“Frankly, I’m looking forward to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez primarying him [Schumer] very soon, and seeing him ran out of town because no one believes what he says,” said Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN).

Whether AOC goes national or not, Republicans are signaling they won’t let her slide on ethics — or hypocrisy.
