Armed Man Arrested At Trump Golf Club Had Melania’s Schedule, Personal Info

What initially appeared to be a disturbing security breach at one of President Donald Trump’s properties has grown considerably more serious, according to allegations disclosed by prosecutors.

Jeanine John Taele, 38, was allegedly carrying extensive information related to the president’s protective operation when authorities arrested him at Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles in Rancho Palos Verdes. Prosecutors revealed during a Los Angeles County court hearing Wednesday that the material included copies of first lady Melania Trump’s schedule and information about Secret Service personnel.

Authorities said investigators recovered seven notebooks containing 208 pages of writings, drawings, and sketches connected to the property.

The notebooks allegedly contained Secret Service schedules, details about individual agents, and extensive lists describing how someone could survive “off the grid.”

Los Angeles County Judge John Lonergan Jr. called the allegations “alarming,” particularly amid heightened political tensions and recurring acts of violence.

“This case itself is alarming in this day and age with the violence that is creeping into our everyday lives, especially with our partisanship in the political environment” ahead of the midterms, Lonergan said, according to The Associated Press.

The investigation began after plainclothes federal agents allegedly encountered Taele at the golf club on Aug. 2. Authorities said he was photographing and recording areas around the property while apparently observing preparations for an anticipated visit by President Trump.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies detained Taele and allegedly found a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition inside his pants pocket.

A subsequent search of his vehicle reportedly uncovered a loaded handgun with a round already in the chamber, as well as another magazine containing hollow-point ammunition.

Taele allegedly claimed that he worked for the State Department and was at the golf course as part of a security detail. Authorities later searched his residence in Downey, California, where they reportedly discovered an additional collection of weapons and tactical equipment.

Among the items allegedly recovered were an illegally modified AR-platform rifle, a .45-caliber handgun, body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk ammunition, and devices capable of interacting with radio signals.

Investigators also seized the notebooks containing what officials previously described as “concerning statements.”

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, the Secret Service, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are jointly investigating the case.

Despite the troubling nature of the allegations, the criminal proceedings have now been suspended following questions about Taele’s mental competency. A pretrial evaluation determined that he was mentally unfit to stand trial, prompting Lonergan to transfer the case to mental health court.

Taele, a Marine veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, will remain in custody ahead of a Sept. 9 hearing at Hollywood Mental Health Court.

His public defender, A.J. Bayne, urged the public not to reach conclusions about his client’s intentions before the evidence is fully examined.

“He’s a veteran, he served our country, and I don’t know enough right now, but he has a family that loves him, that has huge support for him,” Bayne said, according to the AP.

Bayne also warned that “people assume too much” about Taele’s motives.

The Secret Service has declined to reveal specific information about the ongoing investigation. The agency previously said it “thoroughly investigates any information or activity” that might constitute a protective intelligence concern or potential threat involving someone under its protection.

President Trump responded to the arrest during an appearance on “Fox News @ Night.” The incident represents yet another alarming security concern surrounding the president after multiple threats and assassination attempts in recent years.

“Well, the only thing I get a little solace from is, they say only consequential presidents,” Trump said.

“And I am definitely consequential.”
