Boelter’s Wife Detained After Passport, Weapon Found in Car

Law enforcement in Minnesota detained the wife of a suspected political assassin after discovering her traveling with weapons, cash, and passports — raising fresh questions about what she may have known or planned.

Around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, authorities intercepted Jenny Boelter during a traffic stop outside a convenience store in Onamia, Minnesota. She was behind the wheel of a vehicle carrying three relatives. Inside the car, police found a handgun, ammunition, bundles of cash, and multiple passports, according to 5 Eyewitness News.

Though not arrested, Jenny Boelter was taken in for questioning. “A dozen law enforcement squads converged on the vehicle and remained on the scene for two to three hours,” a witness told the outlet.

The development followed a nationwide manhunt for her husband, Vance Luther Boelter, a 57-year-old man accused of gunning down four prominent Democrats in a targeted political rampage. He was captured by Sibley County authorities Sunday evening after a two-day search.

Boelter allegedly murdered Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, early Saturday morning in their Brooklyn Park home. He’s also accused of shooting State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, in a similar attack just miles away in Champlin. Both Hoffmans survived.

According to police, Boelter was identified Sunday evening when he “verbally” confirmed his identity to officers closing in on his location.

“The face of evil. After relentless and determined police work, the killer is now in custody,” the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post. “Thanks to the dedication of multiple agencies working together along with support from the community, justice is one step closer.”

Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Col. Jeremy Geiger added that Boelter “crawled to law enforcement teams and was placed under arrest at that point in time.”

Authorities discovered disturbing anti-government messages tied to Boelter. Signs in his truck read “No Kings,” echoing the radical rhetoric of anti-Trump activists who organized “No Kings” protests Saturday across the country in opposition to President Trump’s strengthened ICE operations.

Boelter now faces four felony charges: two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder, filed by the Hennepin County District Court. The charges carry a potential 40-year prison sentence each, with a mandatory minimum of three years for the use of a firearm.

Champlin police responded to a 911 call around 2:05 a.m. Saturday reporting a masked shooter. Officers discovered the Hoffmans wounded but alive. Surveillance footage showed Boelter, disguised in tactical police gear, arriving in a Ford SUV outfitted with police lights. He reportedly identified himself as law enforcement before opening fire inside the home.

Roughly 90 minutes later, police were dispatched to another home — the Hortman residence — where Boelter allegedly shot the couple through the open front door. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later uncovered a cache of weapons in Boelter’s possession, including three AK-47s, a 9mm pistol, tactical gear, a police-style badge, and a hit list containing names and addresses of additional public officials.

Officials confirmed the attack was calculated. The suspect deliberately targeted lawmakers, masquerading as a police officer while executing his plan.

As investigators continue piecing together the scope of this politically motivated assault, questions remain about how deep the plot ran — and whether others were involved.
