Bolton Takes Catastrophic Hit as Investigators Reportedly Find Alarming Links Between Him and Enemy Country's Spy Service

Former National Security Advisor John Bolton — long viewed as one of Washington’s most unapologetic warmongers — now finds himself facing serious legal jeopardy.

The ongoing federal investigation into Bolton’s alleged mishandling of classified information is poised to embarrass his loyal defenders in the establishment media, assuming, of course, that any of those Beltway insiders are capable of embarrassment.

According to The New York Times, U.S. intelligence officials obtained material on Bolton “from an adversarial country’s spy service.” The revelations reportedly trace back to his tenure as National Security Advisor during President Donald Trump’s first administration.

Anonymous sources familiar with the probe told the Times that the foreign intelligence haul included “emails with sensitive information that Mr. Bolton, while still working in the first Trump administration, appeared to have sent to people close to him on an unclassified system.”

The parallels to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s infamous email scandal are difficult to ignore.

On Friday, the FBI executed raids on Bolton’s Maryland home and office. Almost immediately, corporate media outlets and anti-Trump partisans claimed the move was an act of “retribution” by President Trump against one of his fiercest critics.

Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin of New York fanned the narrative in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, calling the raid “disturbing.”
“This episode is disturbing,” Raskin said in a clip posted Friday to X, “and it seems to confirm Bolton’s own prediction that if Donald Trump got back into office, his administration would be consumed with vengeance and retribution against his perceived political enemies.”

Of course, Trump’s critics appear blind to the irony. Former President Joe Biden’s administration weaponized the federal government against conservatives and against Trump himself for four years, unleashing partisan investigations and raids on his allies without hesitation.

And despite Democrats’ finger-pointing, even The New York Times admits the Bolton inquiry “began to pick up momentum during the Biden administration.”

Journalist Glenn Greenwald reminded his followers of this fact on Thursday, posting on X:
“Democratic politicians and pundits proclaimed with virtual unanimity that the FBI’s investigation into John Bolton was retribution for his criticisms of Trump. In fact, the investigation began and made substantial progress under Biden. I’m sure they will all be noting this.”

Sean Davis of The Federalist added that “everyone who white-knighted for Bolton after defending the insane Mar-a-Lago raid is going to look especially craven and corrupt as more details emerge.”

Bolton’s history offers little reason for sympathy. He once joked openly about orchestrating coups against foreign governments. Former State Department official Mike Benz, a well-known critic of the intelligence community, even described Bolton as “the most straight-talking Blobmonster in the swamp.”

If prosecutors ultimately bring charges, Bolton will face his day in court. For now, however, the spotlight is less on Bolton himself than on the establishment figures who rushed to defend him. Their reflexive defense of a man with a long record of reckless foreign policy adventurism looks increasingly foolish as the facts continue to unfold.
