Welp.
If Bongino is serious about resigning, and Bondi is staying, then he'll be heading out.

At the center of the internal firestorm is FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, who has allegedly threatened to step down if Bondi remains in her position, according to CNN.
The conflict stems from a contentious Wednesday meeting at the White House involving Bondi, Bongino, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. Sources say the clash escalated when Bongino and Patel were questioned about a NewsNation report alleging that the FBI had pushed to release more Epstein-related files but was blocked by the Justice Department. Bongino, while denying any involvement in the leak, reportedly refused to sign a DOJ-approved statement defending the agency's review — further fueling speculation of a rift.
Axios first broke details of the confrontation, with additional confirmation coming from CNN and other sources.
Bongino’s absence from work on Friday only intensified rumors. Although he hadn’t formally resigned by the end of the day, insiders say the situation is “a complete mess,” and that dissatisfaction is brewing both inside the administration and within Trump’s MAGA base.
This backlash follows a Justice Department memo earlier this week which concluded there was no foul play in Epstein’s death, no existing “client list,” and no evidence of blackmail — a direct contradiction to what many of President Trump’s supporters were expecting after his 2024 campaign remarks suggested a broader disclosure of the Epstein files might be forthcoming.
Bondi had previously signaled a more aggressive approach, even meeting with pro-Trump influencers in February and distributing binders related to Epstein. But critics noted that most of the contents were already public, calling the effort underwhelming.
Conservative firebrand Laura Loomer took to X to voice MAGA frustration, stating that Bongino and Patel were “LIVID” over Bondi’s handling of the matter and claiming Bongino may not return to his post.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche attempted to quash the firestorm, calling any talk of division between the DOJ and FBI “patently false.” White House Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields also stepped in to support the unity narrative:
“President Trump has assembled a highly qualified and experienced law and order team dedicated to protecting Americans, holding criminals accountable, and delivering justice to victims,” Fields stated.
“This work is being carried out seamlessly and with unity,” he added. “Any attempt to sow division within this team is baseless and distracts from the real progress being made in restoring public safety and pursuing justice for all.”
Still, unrest among grassroots conservatives continues to rise, especially as Epstein-related revelations remain limited and the official story — suicide with no foul play — continues to face fierce skepticism.
