Bongino Says FBI Arrested Thousands In Major Summer Operation
Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino announced Friday that “Operation Summer Heat” — a nationwide law enforcement initiative launched in June — has already resulted in more than 6,000 arrests, nearly 1,700 seized firearms, and the disruption of violent gangs with ties to foreign terrorist organizations.
In a post on X, Bongino credited teamwork between the FBI, local law enforcement, and federal partners for the sweeping crackdown.
“Operation Summer Heat continues to deliver results as we strive to protect the communities we serve,” Bongino wrote. “By uniting with our communities and law enforcement partners, we stay prepared and resilient together.”
Among the highlights:
- New York: FBI teams arrested a suspect involved in a gas station robbery where an elderly employee was working.
- Seattle: A major street gang investigation resulted in the seizure of 23 firearms and nearly 10 kilograms of narcotics. The gang allegedly used female couriers to fly drugs from Arizona to Seattle and Baltimore.
- Tampa: Working with the DEA, USPS, DOL, and Lakeland Police Department, the FBI dismantled the “Hood Boys” gang. Twelve members were charged with defrauding the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program. Instead of repaying taxpayer-backed loans, they blew the funds on cars, liquor, clothes, and guns. Losses totaled about $236,000. Authorities say the gang also maintained ties to the Sinaloa Cartel and trafficked meth and cocaine.
- New Orleans: In partnership with ATF, U.S. Marshals, and local police, the FBI secured 60 felony arrests, 31 drug seizures, and pulled $39,000 worth of narcotics off the streets.
Overall, the initiative has not only led to thousands of arrests but also helped locate or identify roughly 770 children.
“These numbers will only continue to grow along with YOUR FBI’s dedication and vigilance,” Bongino said, concluding with: “God bless America, and all those who defend Her.”
Hidden Comey-Era Evidence Discovered
Bongino also revealed last week that his team uncovered previously undisclosed evidence from former FBI Director James Comey’s tenure.
“I wouldn’t call it hidden, but hidden from us at least and not mentioned to us, and then we found stuff in there and a lot of it’s from the Comey-era, and we are working our damndest right now to declassify,” Bongino told Fox News.
He noted that much of the material had not been processed properly into FBI records.
“We found it in bags hiding under Jim Comey’s FBI, and you’re going to be stunned,” Bongino said. “Once that gets done and that gets out there, and you read some of the stuff, we found that … was not processed through the normal procedure, digitizing it, putting it in FBI records.”
While Bongino said the bureau is bound by inter-agency protocols before releasing the evidence, he hinted that the findings could shake public confidence in how the FBI was run under Comey.
The revelations come as President Donald J. Trump’s administration continues to clean house at the Bureau and restore accountability after years of corruption and politicization under Democratic leadership.
