Book: Jill Biden Gained Political Power As Joe Biden Faded

As President Joe Biden’s political career crumbles under the weight of scandal, gaffes, and cognitive decline, a new book lays bare what many conservatives have suspected all along: First Lady Jill Biden isn’t just his spouse — she’s the one pulling the strings behind the scenes.

The book, 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America, released Tuesday, reveals the inner turmoil of the Biden White House and how Jill Biden’s grip on power grew stronger just as her husband’s ability to lead the nation weakened.

Written by mainstream reporters Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager, and Isaac Arnsdorf — hardly conservatives — the exposé details how Jill Biden, along with her top aide Anthony Bernal, quietly amassed influence as Joe Biden became increasingly detached from the presidency.

As the walls closed in on Biden, who is now under intense congressional scrutiny for what many believe to be a coordinated cover-up of his mental deterioration, Jill Biden stepped in as his fiercest protector and unofficial gatekeeper — especially during her son Hunter Biden’s high-profile federal trial.

According to the New York Post, citing passages from the book, Bernal has also come under fire, not just for his influence, but for refusing to cooperate with House investigators probing the Biden White House’s deception surrounding the president’s failing cognitive health. Despite the White House attempting to shield him, a subpoena was issued for Bernal to testify on July 16.

Bernal reportedly accused veteran Democrat operative Anita Dunn of being disloyal — simply for wanting more transparency from an administration engulfed in secrecy and spin.

Meanwhile, discussion of Hunter Biden became virtually forbidden inside the White House, even as his criminal trial dominated headlines during the 2024 campaign.

The book describes how Jill Biden went to extreme lengths to be present at her son’s trial — including flying back from France in under 24 hours — in a clear break from typical first lady responsibilities. West Wing staffers were caught off guard, unaware of her plans, further underscoring her independent operation and disregard for established protocol.

Bernal remained attached to Jill Biden throughout it all, described by the authors as a shadow figure who used his proximity to power to wield influence in areas well beyond his official East Wing duties.

“It was often unclear if the opinion he was expressing was his own or the first lady’s,” the authors write. “Sometimes, when donors or voters asked her questions, Bernal would jump in to answer.”

As Biden’s reelection campaign spiraled into chaos following his catastrophic debate performance against President Donald J. Trump, Jill Biden — not his political team — emerged as his public defender.

“Joe isn’t just the right person for the job,” she insisted at a post-debate fundraiser. “He’s the only person for the job.”

That defense came despite clear signs from within the Democrat establishment that faith in Biden was crumbling. Yet, according to the book, Jill Biden refused to let go, reportedly scolding aides, managing his schedule, and even instructing staffers on how long press conferences should run.

“She played the role of the protective spouse,” the book notes, highlighting how she micromanaged everything from his vegetable intake to his public remarks.

Even after a devastating debate performance and mounting calls for Biden to drop out, the book describes how the idea of stepping aside was never on the table during a Biden family meeting at Camp David.

“The president was not entertaining the idea of dropping out of the race,” the authors wrote.

In other words: Jill Biden wasn’t just along for the ride. She was driving the bus while the country was headed toward a cliff.
