Breaking: Democrat Introduces Articles of Impeachment Against RFK Jr.

Michigan Democrat Rep. Haley Stevens—already positioning herself for a 2026 U.S. Senate run—is attempting to elevate her political profile by launching impeachment articles against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a key figure in President Donald Trump’s administration.

In a statement released on her official website, Stevens accused Kennedy of abandoning the very institutions he was appointed to steward.
Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has turned his back on science, on public health, and on the American people — spreading conspiracies and lies, driving up costs, and putting lives at risk,” she claimed.

Stevens insisted that Kennedy’s leadership has weakened families across the country.
Under his watch, families are less safe and less healthy, people are paying more for care, lifesaving research has been gutted, and vaccines have been restricted. He has driven up health care costs while tearing down the scientific institutions that keep Michiganders and families across America safe,” she continued.

Her announcement was also promoted on social media:

Doubling down, Stevens declared:
His actions are reckless, his leadership is harmful, and his tenure has become a direct threat to our nation’s health and security. Congress cannot and will not stand by while one man dismantles decades of medical progress.

The Impeachment Filing

The articles introduced by Stevens accuse Kennedy of violating his constitutional obligations and misusing the authority of his office. They argue he “has abused the powers of his office and failed to faithfully execute the laws of the United States, in violation of his constitutional oath and his duty under Article II, Section 3, of the Constitution.

Further, the filing states, “By doing so, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has imperiled the health and safety of the American people, eroded public confidence in the Nation’s public health institutions, and stalled decades of scientific and medical progress.

Political Context and Motives

Even left-leaning media outlets acknowledge the political dynamic at play.
The New York Times—which described Stevens’s move as “an all but certainly futile bid”—reported that she is seeking an open Senate seat in 2026 and discussed her effort with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. However, the paper noted bluntly that “Democratic leaders are not backing it.”

Other Democrats appear to view her maneuver as a strategic attempt to revive a faltering primary campaign:
Some of her colleagues viewed it as the politically motivated move of a candidate who has struggled to gain traction in a heated primary, in which she is facing off against two dynamic candidates who are further to the left than she is,” the Times reported.

Stevens dismissed the accusation.
I am not one for political theater,” she said. “I am for standing up for the health and safety of the people I represent. It’s pretty clear that these are life-and-death issues for folks.

Her comments coincided with a related messaging shift in Democratic circles regarding autism research: Autism' Has Not Been Ruled Out in Major Messaging Shift.

HHS Responds

Andrew Nixon, representing the Department of Health and Human Services, countered the accusations, stating Kennedy “remains focused on the work of improving Americans’ health and lowering costs, not on partisan political stunts that have no merit.

Part of a Larger Trend Among Democrats

Stevens’s impeachment push comes as Michigan Democrat Rep. Shri Thanedar has filed articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth—another senior Trump official—as highlighted by NBC News. According to the outlet, Thanedar is involved in a contentious primary against a progressive challenger backed by Justice Democrats.

The simultaneous impeachment attempts underscore the increasing willingness of Democratic lawmakers to use high-profile political attacks as leverage in their intraparty battles—especially in states where far-left challengers threaten more moderate incumbents.
