Breaking: FBI Issues Subpoenas to Tim Walz, Jacob Frey, and Keith Ellison
The Department of Justice has reportedly escalated its investigation into Minnesota’s Democratic leadership, issuing grand jury subpoenas Tuesday to multiple high-ranking officials, including Gov. Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and others.
According to sources who spoke with Fox News, the subpoenas were delivered to five state government offices as part of a federal probe examining potential conspiracy, coercion, and obstruction of federal law enforcement during Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Minnesota.
Those same sources confirmed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation—the enforcement arm of the Department of Justice—served subpoenas seeking specific records and internal communications tied to the alleged interference.
The move follows last week’s revelation that federal authorities were already investigating Walz and Frey for allegedly undermining lawful ICE operations and hindering federal officers carrying out their duties.
U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told Fox News that the public rhetoric and actions taken by these liberal officials against ICE may have crossed a dangerous legal line.
“When the governor or the mayor threaten our officers, when the mayor suggests that he’s encouraging citizens to call 911 when they see ICE officers, that is very close to a federal crime,” he said.
Rather than addressing the substance of the allegations, Walz attempted to deflect blame by accusing President Donald J. Trump’s administration—now in its second term—of politicizing the justice system.
“Two days ago, it was Elissa Slotkin. Last week it was Jerome Powell. Before that, Mark Kelly,” Walz wrote on the social media platform X. “Weaponizing the justice system against your opponents is an authoritarian tactic. The only person not being investigated for the shooting of Renee Good is the federal agent who shot her.”

Frey echoed similar claims in a post on X, portraying the investigation as political retaliation.
“This is an obvious attempt to intimidate me for standing up for Minneapolis, local law enforcement, and residents against the chaos and danger this Administration has brought to our city,” Frey wrote on X. “I will not be intimidated. My focus remains where it’s always been: keeping our city safe.”

The White House strongly rejected those claims. Speaking to Fox News on Monday, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson accused Walz and Frey of deliberately fueling unrest and hostility toward federal authorities.
“There is no low these radical leftists won’t stoop to,” Jackson said.
She continued:
“Jacob Frey and Tim Walz have whipped these rioters into a frenzy and turned them loose to wreak havoc on Minneapolis.”
Jackson made clear that the Trump administration would not be deterred from enforcing federal law.
“Frey and Walz should be ashamed for inciting such chaos, but the Trump Administration will continue enforcing the law.”
The investigation comes amid growing unrest in the region. On Sunday, a group of agitators stormed the Christian Cities Church sanctuary in St. Paul, disrupting a worship service and harassing congregants.
Department of Justice officials have already stated they intend to pursue charges against those involved, including former CNN host Don Lemon, who claimed he was present in a journalistic capacity.
Harmeet Dhillon, U.S. Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division, confirmed Monday that Lemon will be charged under the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871, noting that he admitted he knew “exactly what was going to happen inside that facility.”
Dhillon issued a stark warning to activist groups nationwide.
“Everyone in the protest community needs to know that the fullest force of the federal government is going to come down and prevent this from happening and put people away for a long, long time.”
As the subpoenas move forward, the case is shaping up to be a major test of whether state and local officials can openly defy federal immigration enforcement without legal consequences under President Trump’s second-term Justice Department.
