Breaking: Law Enforcement Announces 'Breakthroughs' in Charlie Kirk Investigation
Law enforcement officials say they are closing in on the suspect who assassinated Turning Point USA president Charlie Kirk during a campus event in Utah on Wednesday.
Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason announced Thursday that investigators have made “a few breakthroughs” in tracking the shooter’s movements before and after the deadly attack at Utah Valley University.
“Starting at 11:52 a.m. the subject arrived on campus, shortly away from campus. We’ve tracked his movements onto the campus, through the stairwells, up to the roof, across the roof to the shooting location,” Mason explained in a video posted to X.
“After the shooting, we were able to track his movements as he moved to the other side of the building, jumped off the building, and fled off of the campus and into a neighborhood,” he continued.
Authorities have already begun collecting surveillance footage from local residents. “We do have good video footage of this individual,” Mason confirmed, though he noted the footage would not yet be released unless investigative tools fail to produce an identification.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls revealed that investigators also recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the killing. “That rifle was recovered in a wooded area where the shooter had fled,” Bohls said, describing it as a “high-powered, bolt-action rifle.”
In addition to the weapon, Bohls confirmed that law enforcement had obtained a footwear impression, palm print, and forearm imprints at the scene, all of which are being analyzed.
Mason also shared that he had personally spoken with Kirk’s widow Wednesday evening, telling CBS that “the family is devastated.”

“I can only imagine what that family is going through,” Mason said. “The heinous event that happened yesterday is not Utah. This is not what we’re known for.”
Vowing justice, Mason stressed that every possible resource is being dedicated to the manhunt. “We will not stand for what happened yesterday,” he declared. “We are exhausting every lead, we have every officer invested in this, every investigator, every local agency. The outpouring of support for the law enforcement community has been astounding. We are investing everything we have into this and we will catch this individual.”
