Breaking: Trump Makes His Move on Decarlos Brown - Nobody Can Save Him Now
The Department of Justice has filed a federal murder charge against Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr., the 34-year-old repeat offender accused of stabbing 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska to death on a Charlotte commuter train last month.
On Aug. 22, Zarutska was riding the Lynx Blue Line when prosecutors say Brown suddenly pulled a knife and stabbed her three times from behind. Surveillance video of the 9:50 p.m. attack — released nearly two weeks later — shocked the public and fueled outrage nationwide.
Brown, already facing first-degree murder charges in state court, is now charged federally with committing an act causing death on a mass transportation system. If convicted, he faces life in prison or the death penalty.
DOJ: “He will never again see the light of day”
Attorney General Pamela Bondi minced no words:
“Iryna Zarutska was a young woman living the American dream — her horrific murder is a direct result of failed soft-on-crime policies that put criminals before innocent people. We will seek the maximum penalty for this unforgivable act of violence — he will never again see the light of day as a free man.”
FBI Director Kash Patel echoed that outrage, calling the stabbing “a disgraceful act that should never happen in America.” He vowed the Bureau would ensure Brown “is never released from jail to kill again.”
U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson emphasized the broader implications:
“This brutal attack on an innocent woman simply trying to get to her destination is an attack on the American way of life. Crimes like this also affect everyone who relies on mass transportation… federal charges are necessary to protect the public and ensure confidence in our transportation systems.”
I'm calling on @AGPamBondi to charge DeCarlos Brown Jr with a federal hate crime

A Family That Chose America
Zarutska and her family fled Ukraine after Russia’s invasion in 2022, seeking safety and opportunity in the United States. According to Ferguson, they have chosen to bury her in her new home country.
“After Iryna’s death, the Embassy in Ukraine called and said, ‘We’ll help you bring her home.’ And her family said, ‘No. She loved America. We’re going to bury her here.’”
A Broken System
Court records show Brown was no stranger to law enforcement — he had been arrested at least 14 times since 2007 for robbery, assault, and weapons charges. Despite his violent history, he was repeatedly released back into the community, including just weeks before Zarutska’s murder under cashless parole.
The case has become a rallying cry for those demanding an end to policies that put repeat offenders back on the streets while innocent citizens — including those who come here chasing the American dream — pay the ultimate price.
