Breaking: Trump Tells Kimberly Guilfoyle to Resign
President Donald Trump has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as U.S. ambassador to Greece after reports alleged she sought money from a political donor to cover a personal credit card bill, the White House said Tuesday.
White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed the decision during her first news conference.
“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well,” Zacharia said.
The move follows reports alleging improper conduct and a possible pay-for-play arrangement involving Guilfoyle and Republican donor Eric Deters. According to multiple reports, Guilfoyle sought $100,000 from Deters to pay her American Express bill days before her Senate confirmation hearing.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Guilfoyle allegedly promised Deters access to the White House in return. Guilfoyle’s team has denied wrongdoing.
Trump had said Monday that ending Guilfoyle’s tenure was under consideration.
