Breaking: Trump's Life In Danger - Feds Rush In

Federal authorities arrested a Kansas man two days before President Donald Trump’s scheduled appearance in Wichita, after investigators traced a Crime Stoppers tip to threatening comments posted beneath local news stories.

Jaden J. Read, 24, of Clearwater, was arrested October 17. The Justice Department says he posted multiple threats on Facebook in response to articles about Trump’s planned October 19 visit.

The investigation began October 15, after a tip led authorities to comments under a KAKE News article about the trip. Prosecutors say one comment called for someone to shoot the president:

“Let’s shoot Trump honestly, where’s our shooter?”

The Justice Department said another comment beneath the same article referred to ammunition and threatened to kill Trump.

Investigators also found comments under a KWCH 12 News article about the visit, prosecutors said. Read allegedly wrote:

“Can we shoot him in Kansas please I will myself,”

A comment posted a minute later allegedly claimed knowledge of where Trump would speak and said: “Already mapped out roofs around,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas.

The rooftop reference featured in the federal announcement, though authorities did not say whether investigators confirmed that Read had mapped nearby rooftops or developed an operational plan.

Federal prosecutors filed a criminal complaint on October 17, the same day Read was arrested. Authorities said he would remain in custody pending a detention hearing. The announcement did not give the hearing’s outcome or a trial date.

U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser said threats against political figures would be taken seriously while emphasizing the limits of protected speech.

“Political violence and threats of political violence will not be tolerated,” Kriegshauser said.

“The first Amendment allows for robust disagreement but there are constraints,” the federal prosecutor said.

“I caution people to stay within the bounds of constitutionally protected speech.”

The investigation involved the Secret Service, U.S. Marshals Service, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Kansas Highway Patrol, and Wichita Police Department.

Read is accused of threatening the president. The Justice Department’s announcement does not describe an attack, and the alleged rooftop comment alone does not establish that an attack was planned. Read is presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in court, Fox News reported.
