BREAKING: Two West Virginia National Guardsmen Killed in Washington, D.C. Shooting – Suspect in Custody

A tragic update emerged from Washington, D.C., on Wednesday as two members of the West Virginia National Guard died after being shot in the heart of the nation’s capital, the Associated Press confirmed. What began as a developing security emergency has now become a national moment of mourning — and a call for accountability.

President Donald Trump released a forceful statement shortly after receiving news of the attack, making clear that his administration would pursue justice without hesitation.

“The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price,” Trump said on Truth Social.

The New York Post reported that a suspect had been taken into custody as authorities continued their investigation.

In a follow-up post, President Trump praised the service members and those who rushed into harm’s way:
“God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement.”

“These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!” Trump added.

West Virginia’s Republican governor, Patrick Morrisey, confirmed the heartbreaking loss in a statement Wednesday evening.

“It is with great sorrow that we can confirm both members of the West Virginia National Guard who were shot earlier today in Washington, DC have passed away from their injuries,” Morrisey said.

“These brave West Virginians lost their lives in the service of their country,” he added.

Morrisey emphasized continued coordination with federal officials as the investigation unfolds, saying, “We are in ongoing contact with federal officials as the investigation continues.”

“Our entire state grieves with their families, their loved ones, and the Guard community.”

“West Virginia will never forget their service or their sacrifice, and we will demand full accountability for this horrific act.”

As of now, authorities have not released further details about the suspect, the motive, or whether the attack was targeted. The deaths of two American service members on the streets of the nation’s capital have renewed concerns over public safety and security inside the District, a city long plagued by violent crime under Democrat governance.
