California Sheriff Slams Newsom, Democrats for Fueling LA Chaos After ICE Raids
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released details on more than a dozen illegal immigrants with criminal records who were taken into custody in Los Angeles as part of recent ICE operations. The update comes after violent riots erupted downtown in response to the raids, where “hundreds of illegal aliens [were] arrested by ICE officers and agents,” including many with convictions.
“America’s brave ICE officers are removing the worst of the worst from LA’s streets, while LA’s leaders are working tirelessly against them,” DHS declared as unrest escalated over the weekend.
Sheriff Bianco Blasts Newsom’s Inaction
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco did not mince words about the violent demonstrations or about California Democrats’ refusal to uphold the rule of law.
“These agitators are not protesting. They are trying to violently influence something by political action. That is what this is. That is everything that the Constitution stands against,” Bianco said.
The Republican sheriff, who is running for governor, warned that Democrat leaders are eroding America’s foundations:
“That is what law enforcement stands against, and that is what will facilitate the downfall of our civilized society. A civilized society has an adherence to the rule of law, and there is a consequence for breaking that social compact. And when politicians encourage this behavior…”
Bianco went further, slamming Gov. Gavin Newsom for emboldening lawlessness:
“Governor Newsom needs to put his phone down, go sit in his house behind the comfort of his TV screen and a couch, and be quiet because he is doing nothing but fueling this process. He needs to stay out of the way of law enforcement. He knows nothing about this. He knows absolutely nothing about the enforcement of law. He despises the enforcement of law, and he has encouraged this.”
Court Fight Over National Guard Deployment
The riots also coincided with a major legal battle over President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles.
On Thursday, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily lifted restrictions that had been imposed by U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer, who had claimed Trump’s order violated the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which bars federal troops from direct domestic policing.
In a short order, the appeals court issued an “administrative stay” against Breyer’s Sept. 2 ruling. Breyer’s decision had allowed troops to guard federal buildings but prohibited arrests, crowd control, or other direct police duties. He delayed enforcement of the order until Sept. 12 to give the administration time to appeal.
The Justice Department argued that Breyer’s restrictions endangered public safety and intruded upon the President’s constitutional authority as commander in chief.
Clash Between Trump and California Democrats
President Trump first dispatched thousands of Guard members and Marines in June after pro-immigration protests spiraled into destructive riots across the city. While most of those forces have since returned home, about 300 remain stationed in the area.
California Democrats, including Gov. Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta, challenged Trump’s decision, insisting the Guard should have stayed under state control. Breyer initially sided with them, but the 9th Circuit quickly stepped in to block his order. Thursday’s ruling marks the second time the appellate court has intervened on behalf of the administration.
The broader legal battle underscores the deep divide between the Trump administration and Democratic state officials nationwide. The President has argued that federal surges are essential to restore law and order in cities plagued by violent crime. Democrats, by contrast, insist the situation is “under control” and have resisted federal involvement at every turn.
