Carville Debuts Absurd New Theory About Trump Stealing 2026 Midterms, O'Reilly Rips Him to Shreds Over it

In what can only be described as a desperate and delusional outburst, longtime Democrat strategist James Carville claimed this week that President Donald J. Trump will declare martial law to stop Americans from voting in the 2026 midterm elections.

Carville, who continues to cling to the tired “Trump is a dictator” trope, made the outrageous suggestion during an appearance on NewsNation with host Chris Cuomo. The same baseless fear-mongering helped Democrats whip their base into a frenzy during the 2024 election cycle — a strategy that failed miserably when President Trump swept all seven swing states and reclaimed the White House in a historic victory.

As reported by Mediaite, Carville originally floated his martial law theory on Tuesday, suggesting Trump would try to interfere with the midterms to avoid a Democrat-led House impeachment in the latter half of his second term.

Cuomo revisited the claim Wednesday, inviting Carville to elaborate. The former Clinton campaign adviser didn’t hold back, beginning with predictions about this year’s off-year gubernatorial races.

“Virginia and New Jersey are going to be a Democratic blowout,” Carville claimed.

Referencing Trump’s recently passed pro-growth legislation, mockingly dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill” by the left, Carville ranted, “[Trump’s] going to see that this ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ is about 25 points underwater. It’s going to be 30 points underwater.” He continued, “[Trump’s] going to see a massive defeat coming, and he’s going to try to do anything he can to extricate himself from that defeat.”

Carville then dropped the bombshell claim: “And I would not put it at all past him to try to call martial law or declare that there’s some kind of national emergency in the country or anything like that because the hoof prints are coming.”

Cue the eye rolls.

Conservative commentator Bill O’Reilly wasn’t about to let Carville’s hysteria go unchecked.

“Martial law. My God,” O’Reilly shot back. “We’re going to have tanks in my driveway. No, I don’t believe that will happen.”

O’Reilly dismissed Carville’s remarks for what they were — political fear tactics aimed at undermining a booming economy and a resurgent Republican movement.

“I think that the economy will dictate who wins in the midterms,” O’Reilly said, rightly pointing to the “Big Beautiful Bill” as a driver of economic growth that will benefit American workers and consumers alike.

Cuomo had earlier introduced the tax legislation topic, noting Republican claims that the bill, an extension of the 2017 Trump tax cuts, would yield similar economic gains. It includes across-the-board tax relief, elimination of taxes on tips and overtime pay, and a significant increase in standard deductions — all designed to empower working families and seniors on fixed incomes.

When asked if he accepted the economic case for the tax reform, Carville scoffed, “Absolutely not. There is no evidence that cutting taxes on rich people does anything but explode the deficit.”

That’s flatly false.

History proves otherwise. When Presidents Kennedy, Reagan, and Trump enacted broad tax cuts, revenues rose and job creation surged — as lower rates unlocked entrepreneurship and investment, expanding the tax base and the economy.

President Trump’s latest tax overhaul follows that proven blueprint. Among its provisions:

  • Raises the standard deduction by $1,000 for individuals
  • Boosts the child tax credit to $2,500
  • Increases seniors’ deduction by $4,000
  • Eliminates federal taxes on tips and overtime pay

Despite what Carville claims, there’s no windfall for the wealthy here. As O’Reilly pointed out, “There are no cuts for the rich. All this does is keep what was legislated in 2017 … The brackets will stay the same.”

Fact check: True. The top tax rate remains at 37 percent.

The left may scream “tax breaks for the rich,” but the reality is these reforms provide real relief for working Americans, not Wall Street elites. President Trump is delivering on his promises — easing the tax burden, respecting hard work, and strengthening the middle class.

Carville’s latest meltdown is more than political theater — it’s a warning sign that Democrats are once again trying to sow chaos and confusion ahead of an election they know they’re likely to lose. The strategy is familiar: spread panic, predict disaster, and demonize Trump.

But the American people are no longer buying it.

As the economy continues to surge and confidence in conservative leadership grows, it’s clearer than ever: the road to 2026 runs straight through a revitalized, pro-growth, America First agenda. And no amount of shouting from Carville or Cuomo is going to stop that.
