Cory Booker Vows to Defy President Trump, Even If It Lands Him in Jail

Sen. Cory Booker is doubling down on his attacks against President Donald Trump, declaring on MSNBC Thursday that not even the threat of jail will silence him.

During a softball interview with former Biden White House staffer Jen Psaki, Booker postured as a defiant warrior for “democracy” while accusing President Trump of targeting Democrats in New Jersey — despite mounting evidence of criminal wrongdoing by some of those very individuals.

“Stand up and fight,” Booker urged viewers. “I don’t care if this president calls me out every day, mean tweets me, threatens me.”

Booker, who represents New Jersey, specifically referenced the recent arrests of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and Rep. LaMonica McIver, suggesting their legal troubles are part of a political vendetta orchestrated by the Trump administration — a claim lacking substantiated evidence.

“My Congresswoman LaMonica McIver — arresting her. My mayor — they’ve arrested. They’re picking off, it seems, people that live in Newark that are in elected positions. But I don’t care. Throw me in jail. Do what you have to do,” Booker declared.

Booker framed his rant as a call to action, proclaiming, “We’ve got to have more people willing to stand up and fight and take him on.”

But the facts tell a different story.

Rep. LaMonica McIver, a Democrat from New Jersey, is facing serious federal charges after allegedly assaulting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. According to Fox News, McIver has turned her indictment into a fundraising campaign, claiming the charges are racially motivated.

McIver, who was appointed to fill a vacant congressional seat in September, appeared in federal court in May. A judge ordered her to surrender her firearms, remain within the U.S. without prior permission, and face trial on charges that could land her behind bars for up to eight years — along with a hefty $250,000 fine, per New York Post.

Video footage of the incident reportedly shows McIver shoving and striking ICE agents at a detention facility, though she insisted on CNN that she was “just doing [her] job.”

“If I’m going to be charged with a crime for doing my job, it really speaks to where we’re headed in this country,” McIver told the network, calling the charges “absurd.”

Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, formerly an attorney for President Trump, dismissed McIver’s political narrative and defended the indictment.

“This has nothing to do with congressional oversight, and it has nothing to do with politics. It’s about respecting those who risk their lives to keep us safe,” Habba told the New York Post.
