Crockett Blasts Trump Jobs Report, Goes Silent When It Turns Out They Were Biden's Numbers Instead

Texas Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett has managed to stand out, but not in a way that earns her membership in the so-called "squad." Despite holding similar far-left positions and displaying the same attention-seeking tendencies as its other members, she remains on the outside looking in.
Perhaps it’s by her own decision, but that seems unlikely. After all, being part of the group offers instant connections to progressive favorites like Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar. And let’s be honest—they don’t exactly have strict membership criteria. All that’s required is being young and highly liberal. One could be openly corrupt (Omar), express anti-Semitic views (former Rep. Jamaal Bowman), or even embody both (former Rep. Cori Bush).
So why hasn’t Crockett been welcomed in? She told Politico that, in Texas, the label would be politically damaging.
That explanation doesn’t quite add up, given that her district is overwhelmingly Democratic—so much so that it elected her. The reasoning falls apart further considering that joining the "squad" would raise her profile, and Crockett has proven herself as someone who craves the spotlight. In fact, she may have surpassed Sen. Chuck Schumer as the politician most likely to bulldoze anyone standing between her and a camera.
There may be another explanation: She might actually be too uninformed for what is already one of the least intellectually rigorous groups in recent congressional history.
Take, for example, her reaction to the January jobs report. The data wasn’t exactly stellar. Nonfarm payrolls increased by 143,000, with unemployment dipping to 4.0 percent. However, economists surveyed by Reuters had expected 170,000 new jobs, with some projections reaching 250,000. Additionally, the numbers showed a decline from the previous two months, which had recorded job growth of over 200,000 and 300,000, respectively. It marked the weakest start to a year since 2016.
Rather than digest the facts, Crockett jumped on the data, blaming former President Donald Trump’s supposed anti-DEI stance for the sluggish report.
"So it turns out when you DON’T go woke, you go broke," she posted on X. [Emphasis hers]
"Trump’s New DEI? Dying Economy and Inflation.
"It’s only two weeks in and Trump is Making America Broke Again!" she added.
Thankfully, X’s community notes swiftly corrected her. Regardless of how much bold text she used, the reality remained: Donald Trump wasn’t president for most of January, nor was he in office during the reference period the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) used for its data.

Whoops. Or, should I say: Whoops.
It’s crucial to remember that Crockett is a member of Congress, responsible for using such statistics to make legislative decisions. Not only should she have known this from basic research, but the BLS website itself clearly states the methodology.
According to the BLS: "The survey reference period is the pay period including the 12th of the month. This can vary according to an establishment’s length of pay period, a factor taken into account when compiling the data."
In other words, the numbers reflect President Joe Biden’s economic policies, not Trump’s.
This isn’t even a case of Democrats suddenly pretending to be outraged over economic struggles just two weeks into a new administration—after previously insisting Americans had never had it so good under Biden. That level of cognitive dissonance is typically reserved for politicians like California Rep. Eric Swalwell or social media personalities desperate for engagement, such as Harry Sisson and @JoJoFromJerz.
However, at least those figures attempt to frame misleading narratives using selective facts. Crockett, on the other hand, didn’t even bother to check who was in office when the numbers she referenced were compiled. That places her on a lower rung than @JoJoFromJerz in terms of awareness. Let that sink in, X users.
No wonder she’s not in the "squad." It likely has nothing to do with Texas. Instead, she appears to lack the basic competence required to function as a professional rabble-rouser. She couldn’t even conduct a quick Google search to confirm which president was in office when the economic data she cited was collected. Well done, Jasmine.
