Crockett Drops Out Of Race For Top House Oversight Committee Democrat

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, has officially withdrawn from the race to become the top Democrat on the powerful House Oversight Committee—an embarrassing setback that follows closely on the heels of her unhinged public attacks on President Donald J. Trump and his supporters.

Crockett, a far-left progressive known more for her inflammatory rhetoric than substantive leadership, was one of several Democrats seeking to become the ranking member on the committee charged with overseeing investigations—including the ongoing probe into Joe Biden’s cognitive decline and potential unfitness for office.

But according to Crockett herself, it wasn’t even close.

“It was clear by the numbers that my style of leadership is not exactly what they were looking for,” she told reporters after the vote, “and so I didn’t think that it was fair for me to then push forward and try to rebuke that.”

Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., ultimately secured the top spot after a vote by House Democrats on Monday night. Crockett came in dead last among four contenders.

“They were clear that I was the one that made the least sense in their minds,” she admitted.

Despite the humiliating loss, Crockett attempted to put a brave face on it. “I think the people may be disappointed,” she said, “but at the end of the day, we’ve got to move forward in this country… and I don’t want to be an impediment.”

Still, she vowed to remain “loud and proud” in defense of the Democratic agenda—though her recent comments suggest her “loud” persona may be part of the problem.

In a deranged interview with left-wing journalist Katie Couric on the “Next Question” podcast last week, Crockett launched a vicious tirade against Trump supporters, calling them “sick” and “mentally ill.”

“This idea that we don’t care how many people get hurt. We don’t [care] how we prostitute our service members, you know, thinking that you have your own special little army that’s for you. I mean, it is just, it’s sick. It is really sick. And anybody that supports it is also sick,” she said in reference to the patriotic military parade in Washington, D.C., honoring the Army’s 250th anniversary.

Crockett even suggested that the very election of President Trump itself was proof of a nationwide psychological breakdown.

“We’ve got a mental health crisis in this country because everyone, no matter how you affiliate yourself, should be against Trump, period. This is not partisan for me,” she claimed.

In perhaps the most telling sign of how far left the Democratic Party has drifted, Crockett went on to pine for the days of President George W. Bush, saying she’d “give anything” to have a “regular Republican” back.

“My heart breaks for service members, people that signed up to protect democracy and freedom… and now, literally, the very thing that they signed up to fight against is now their commander-in-chief,” Crockett said. “It really breaks my heart.”

While Crockett's rhetoric may win applause from the radical fringe, it clearly didn’t win over her own colleagues. Her last-place finish is a stark reminder that even within Democrat ranks, there is little appetite for her brand of divisive, extremist politics.
