D.C. ROCKED — Mass Exodus in Nation’s Capital After Documents LEAK...
A growing scandal inside Washington’s police department is sending shockwaves through the nation’s capital after reports revealed that more than a dozen Metropolitan Police Department officials were either terminated or disciplined amid allegations that crime data was manipulated to present a misleading picture of public safety in the District.
The controversy, which has been building for months, intensified after investigators reportedly uncovered evidence suggesting senior officials downgraded serious criminal offenses into lesser categories within official reporting systems. The alleged scheme reduced the number of violent crimes reflected in publicly released statistics while city leaders continued assuring residents that crime conditions were improving.
According to multiple reports, at least 13 department officials faced disciplinary action following the internal investigation. Among those reportedly terminated were Second District Commander Tatjana Savoy and former Third District Commander Michael Pulliam, along with a police captain and several additional supervisory personnel.
Pulliam had previously been suspended after accusations surfaced that violent offenses were intentionally reclassified to less severe categories. Investigators now reportedly believe the practice extended far beyond isolated incidents and may have involved multiple districts and layers of department leadership.
The allegations have fueled criticism from Republicans and public safety advocates who argue that residents were being misled while violent crime concerns continued spreading throughout Washington neighborhoods. Despite official assurances from city leadership, many residents continued reporting fears over carjackings, robberies, assaults, and other violent offenses across the city.
The matter gained national attention after lawmakers on the House Oversight Committee released findings suggesting police leadership faced internal pressure to suppress alarming crime trends.
According to the committee’s report, district commanders allegedly told investigators they were encouraged to “fix” crime statistics in order to create what lawmakers described as “the perception of low crime in the District.”
Investigators reportedly focused on how violent crimes and property offenses were categorized in official systems. Serious assaults, robberies, and related crimes were allegedly downgraded in ways that prevented them from appearing accurately in major public crime data releases.
Critics warn that manipulating crime statistics undermines public trust, distorts policy decisions, and impacts the allocation of law enforcement resources. They argue that communities cannot make informed decisions about public safety when official data fails to reflect conditions on the ground.
Former Police Chief Pamela Smith, who resigned late last year, has strongly denied the allegations.

13 D.C. Police officials have been terminated for their involvement in the manipulation of crime data.
These terminations are a direct result of the Oversight Committee’s work exposing dangerous efforts by DC Police leaders to artificially lower crime rates. https://t.co/pvn7rzmas0
“Never will I ever compromise my integrity for a few crime numbers,” Smith said following publication of the Oversight Committee’s findings.
Meanwhile, interim U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro recently disclosed that federal prosecutors reviewing local cases had upgraded several assault and firearms charges after concerns emerged that suspects may have been undercharged by city prosecutors.
The Office of the D.C. Inspector General has also launched a separate investigation, creating parallel inquiries into the department’s handling of crime reporting and charging decisions.
The scandal became even more politically significant after current President of the United States Donald Trump referenced the allegations during his administration’s aggressive public safety efforts in Washington. President Trump previously cited deteriorating public safety conditions and failures of local leadership while defending the deployment of National Guard troops into the District during last summer’s security operation.
Now, with numerous officials reportedly removed or disciplined, Republicans argue the investigation validates longstanding concerns that city leaders attempted to downplay rising crime while attacking critics who warned about worsening conditions.
The revelations are also likely to reignite broader national scrutiny over crime reporting practices in Democrat-run cities as crime and public safety continue emerging as dominant issues ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Congressional investigators and federal authorities are expected to continue demanding records and testimony in the weeks ahead as questions remain about who authorized the alleged manipulation, how long it continued, and whether similar practices may exist elsewhere inside the department.
For Washington’s police department, the fallout represents one of the most damaging credibility crises in recent memory — one that could carry major legal, political, and institutional consequences for years to come.
