DC Attorney Pirro Makes Decision In Israeli Embassy Staffer Murders

Jeanine Pirro announced Friday that federal prosecutors will seek the death penalty against the man accused of murdering two Israeli Embassy staffers outside Washington’s Capital Jewish Museum last year.

The suspect, Elias Rodriguez, was indicted on multiple federal charges, including terrorism-related offenses tied to the deaths of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim.

Several of the charges carry possible penalties of either life imprisonment or death.

Rodriguez previously faced charges including:

  • Murder of a foreign official
  • Federal firearms offenses
  • Federal hate crime charges resulting in death
  • First-degree premeditated murder while armed
  • Assault with intent to kill while armed

To secure a death sentence, prosecutors must prove Rodriguez specifically targeted the victims because they were Jewish and Israeli.

Milgrim was an American citizen, while Lischinsky was an Israeli citizen working in the United States.

“My message to anyone who seeks to commit political violence in this district: D.C. is not the place. You will be held accountable, and you will face the full wrath of the law,” Pirro said during a Friday press conference.

According to investigators, Rodriguez allegedly traveled from Chicago to the Washington area carrying a handgun in checked luggage.

Authorities say he researched information related to the American Jewish Committee and its support for Israel before the attack.

Surveillance footage and witness testimony reportedly show Rodriguez pacing outside the venue before approaching a group of four individuals and opening fire at close range.

Investigators allege he continued shooting after the victims had fallen to the ground.

According to the indictment, the attack occurred as attendees exited a “Young Diplomats Reception” hosted at the Capital Jewish Museum.

Prosecutors say Rodriguez shouted:
“Free Palestine,”
followed by:
“I did it for Palestine. I did it for Gaza.”

Federal prosecutors argued in court filings that Rodriguez was “motivated by political, ideological, national, and religious bias, contempt, and hatred.”

They further alleged he specifically targeted individuals attending an event associated with young Jewish professionals in order to maximize the public impact of the attack.

Rodriguez’s next court hearing is scheduled for June 30, though no formal trial date has yet been announced.

Meanwhile, Pirro is also facing a separate legal controversy involving another high-profile criminal case connected to Washington, D.C.

Attorneys representing Cole Tomas Allen are attempting to remove both Pirro and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche from prosecuting his case.

Allen is accused of rushing past security during the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner last month while allegedly armed with two firearms and knives.

According to authorities, Allen — a teacher from Torrance — allegedly shot and struck a Secret Service agent, whose bulletproof vest reportedly prevented serious injury.

The agent returned fire but did not hit Allen.

Defense attorneys now argue Pirro and Blanche have conflicts of interest because both were physically present at the event during the alleged shooting.

Court filings state both officials likely heard gunshots and were evacuated alongside other attendees.

Defense lawyers argued that Pirro and Blanche were effectively potential victims during what authorities described as an attempted “mass shooting.”

Pirro herself posted on X shortly after the incident:
“I’ve been taken out of the ballroom after the sounds of shots fired.”

Allen’s legal team claims Pirro and Blanche’s direct involvement raises “grave concerns” about whether prosecutorial decisions are being made impartially or influenced by their own experiences during the incident.

The two high-profile cases now place Pirro at the center of some of the most politically and emotionally charged criminal prosecutions currently unfolding in the nation’s capital.
