Dem Announces in Mexico City: ‘I’m a Proud Guatemalan Before I’m an American’

Several far-left Democrats traveled to Mexico City over the weekend to participate in a globalist, anti-American summit where U.S. lawmakers openly denigrated their own country and aligned themselves with radical international activists hostile to American values.

Among the most inflammatory comments came from Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL), who stood before a foreign audience and declared:

“I’m a proud Guatemalan before I’m an American.”

Ramirez — who represents parts of Chicago and its suburbs — didn’t stop there. She accused the United States of being “addicted to war,” describing the country as driven by “imperialism, militarization, conquest, control, and competition in its pursuit of dominance.”

According to her own congressional website, Ramirez is in a “mixed-status marriage” — her husband is living in the U.S. illegally.

The event, which masqueraded as a forum for “equality” and “solidarity,” was organized by Progressive International, a radical left-wing group that calls capitalism a “virus” to be “eradicated.” It partnered with Morena, the socialist ruling party in Mexico, to host the summit.

But the summit’s true objective wasn’t unity — it was a direct assault on the United States and its global leadership. David Adler, general coordinator of Progressive International, proudly admitted the summit was designed to “confront” what he called authoritarian and fascist movements across the Western Hemisphere — thinly veiled code for conservative, nationalist governments — and to “invert” the existing world order by stripping influence from Washington and handing it over to Global South regimes.

Anti-American sentiment ran high, with immigration and the Israel-Hamas war taking center stage.

  • Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who was removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee in 2023 for repeated anti-Semitic rhetoric, spoke on a panel titled “Visions for the World” where she pushed the pro-Palestinian cause and framed Israel’s response to Hamas as genocide.
  • Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), another prominent Squad member with a history of antisemitic remarks, received a standing ovation at the summit. Colombia’s Deputy Minister Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir praised her as a “symbol of resistance” to so-called “fascism.”

Even foreign officials joined in to bash America. Gerardo Fernández Noroña, President of Mexico’s Senate and a member of Morena, slammed the Trump administration’s immigration policies as “infamous” and accused U.S. authorities of detaining illegal immigrants in facilities he compared to “Alligator Alcatraz.”

He went on to equate the lawful detention of illegal immigrants with post-World War II war crimes — a grotesque and dishonest smear.

“The U.S. claims to be mourning the impact of drug use, yet I haven’t seen a single migrant-style raid carried out against drug dealers,” Noroña said, completely ignoring the fact that ICE has consistently prioritized the removal of criminal aliens and those who violate multiple U.S. laws.

The summit served as yet another example of radical Democrats choosing to stand with America’s critics, rather than its citizens. From slandering U.S. law enforcement to praising socialist governments and tearing down capitalism, the message from this gathering was clear: global elites and progressive lawmakers want to remake the world — and tear down the United States to do it.
