Dem Blasted for Admitting His Party Cares Most About ‘Undocumented’
Senate Republicans are turning up the pressure on Democrats as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown drags on, warning that partisan obstruction is now directly impacting American travelers and federal workers tasked with protecting the homeland.
Speaking forcefully on the Senate floor, Majority Whip John Barrasso accused Democrats of deliberately prolonging the crisis by rejecting repeated Republican efforts to restore DHS operations. According to Barrasso, GOP lawmakers have consistently advanced proposals to reopen the agency—only to see Democrats shift their demands mid-negotiation.
“Republicans have continually come to the Floor to vote to open the Department of Homeland Security,” Barrasso said. “And yet today… the Senate Minority Leader said… that is just ‘poppycock.’”
Barrasso argued that Democrats have “continued to move the goalposts” throughout the standoff, leaving tens of thousands of DHS employees—including TSA agents—working without pay for weeks. The consequences, he warned, are no longer abstract.
“This has gotten so bad,” Barrasso said, pointing to reports of federal workers facing severe financial hardship. “There are members of the Department of Homeland Security who are not getting paid… and who are now… giving [plasma] to get paid.” He added bluntly, “Blood is on their hands.”
Across the country, the effects are becoming increasingly visible. Airport security lines have stretched longer as TSA staffing shortages worsen, raising concerns about both efficiency and national security. Lawmakers on both sides acknowledge growing frustration among travelers, but Republicans argue the responsibility lies squarely with Democratic leadership.
Barrasso highlighted grassroots efforts in Wyoming, where local communities have stepped up to support unpaid TSA workers with supplies and gift cards—an extraordinary measure, he noted, for employees performing essential national security functions without compensation.
🚨 HOLY CRAP! Senator Barrasso just EXPOSED a Democrat who went on live TV and admitted the TRUTH: “This is a Democrat, ‘the people we care most about’, he says, ‘are the UNDOCUMENTED.’”

At the core of the impasse is a broader ideological clash over immigration enforcement. Democrats are demanding that any DHS funding package include new restrictions on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), while Republicans insist the agency must be funded immediately, with policy debates handled separately.
Fueling the controversy further, Barrasso pointed to a resurfaced remark from Chris Murphy, who said in a 2024 interview that “the people we care about most” included undocumented immigrants. Republicans have seized on the statement as emblematic of Democratic priorities amid the shutdown fight.
“Well, there is now circulating… a Democrat member of the Senate on television telling the nation… ‘the people we care most about… are the undocumented,’” Barrasso said. “Not these people who are working every day.”
Democrats, led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, have pushed back, arguing their position is rooted in accountability and long-sought reforms to federal immigration enforcement. Schumer said Democrats are pursuing a “reasonable, good faith proposal” that reflects priorities they have maintained since negotiations began.
Still, a recent Senate vote on a Republican-backed DHS funding bill failed to clear the 60-vote threshold needed to overcome a filibuster, effectively prolonging the shutdown. Democrats opposed the measure, citing insufficient ICE reforms, while Republicans emphasized that the legislation would have immediately restored pay for DHS personnel.
The White House under President Donald J. Trump has also weighed in, criticizing Democrats for blocking funding while continuing to demand policy concessions. A senior administration official described their approach as “not interested in a serious conversation” and warned that the shutdown is “hurting Americans.”
With Congress approaching a scheduled recess and no agreement in sight, the DHS shutdown remains a stark example of Washington dysfunction—one that is increasingly affecting everyday Americans. For now, airport delays, unpaid federal workers, and mounting public frustration stand as the most visible consequences of a political standoff with no clear end.
