Democrats Face More Backlash as New Abuse Allegations Emerge Against Deported 'Maryland Man'
Democrats find themselves under increasing scrutiny for defending an illegal immigrant with a deeply troubling history. New revelations paint Kilmar Abrego Garcia — the man at the center of the controversy — as far more dangerous than previously believed.
Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland is among several Democrats pushing to bring Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national, back to the United States after he was deported on March 15 due to what the government called a clerical error. At the time, Garcia had been living in Maryland.
Left-wing activists were outraged when they learned that a 2019 immigration judge had ruled Garcia should not be sent back to El Salvador, citing fears he would be targeted by local gangs. The Trump administration later acknowledged that his removal was a mistake caused by a paperwork issue.
Nevertheless, Democrats have called for Garcia’s return — at taxpayer expense — despite a troubling criminal record. That includes a 2021 protective order filed by his wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, who accused him of domestic violence.
Now, an earlier protective order from 2020 has surfaced, shedding more light on the allegations. In that filing, Sura described being punched, kicked, slapped, and threatened with death. She also claimed Garcia emotionally abused her children.

The 2020 complaint outlines violent incidents from 2019, where Garcia allegedly dragged his wife by her hair, struck her face, shoved her, and damaged household electronics including a phone, TV, and laptop. Fox News reported that Sura stated in her filing: “At this point, I am afraid to be close to him. I have multiple photos/videos of how violent he can be and all the bruises he [has] left me.”
Beyond the domestic abuse allegations, a 2019 ruling from a federal immigration court determined that Garcia was “a verified member of MS-13” and deemed him ineligible for release.
Sources within the Department of Homeland Security also told Fox News that Garcia was connected to human-trafficking activities.
Even setting aside his alleged ties to MS-13, the accusations of human smuggling, and the domestic abuse complaints, Garcia still violated federal law by entering the U.S. illegally — grounds alone for deportation.
Abrego Garcia is a MS-13 gang member, illegal alien from El Salvador, and suspected human trafficker. The facts reveal he was pulled over with eight individuals in a car traveling from Texas to Maryland with no luggage.

These are the facts — and they are undisputed:
- Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a foreign citizen who’s not supposed to be here.
- His first act in this country was to break its laws by illegally crossing the border.
- While here, Garcia was arrested and accused of committing multiple other crimes.
No matter how you look at it, Garcia is not a model citizen who should be lionized. He was rightfully deported because he broke longstanding federal immigration laws.
After elevating George Floyd — a convicted felon — as a symbol, some Democrats are now rallying around an alleged domestic abuser and human trafficker with no legal right to be in the country.
In doing so, they appear to reveal a pattern: advocating for individuals with deeply troubling pasts, often at the expense of law-abiding citizens. This latest episode underscores what critics see as a distorted moral framework within certain factions of the left — one that prioritizes ideology over public safety and legal integrity.
