Dems Threaten Tulsi Gabbard Over ‘Russiagate’ Revelations
Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, launched into a tirade Sunday, demanding that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard halt the release of documents implicating Obama-era intelligence officials in a coordinated effort to sabotage President Donald Trump.
Himes' outburst followed explosive revelations from Gabbard, who has begun releasing declassified records that allegedly show former CIA Director John Brennan and other Obama administration operatives used the discredited Steele dossier to initiate a politically motivated investigation into then-candidate Trump. Many are calling the effort a soft coup.
In a heated exchange on CBS’s Face the Nation, Himes resorted to incendiary language, accusing Gabbard of endangering Brennan’s life by exposing the former intelligence chief’s role in the Trump-Russia hoax.

View Plans“When you start throwing around language like sedition and treason, somebody is going to get hurt,” Himes declared, dismissing Gabbard’s criminal referrals as baseless and dangerous. He went so far as to insult Trump supporters, sneering that Gabbard’s actions could incite violence from “MAGA mouth breathers.”
Host Margaret Brennan opened the segment by reminding viewers that Gabbard had accused top Obama-era officials of conspiring in a "years-long coup against President Trump" and had formally referred them for prosecution.
Himes leaned heavily on the controversial Senate Intelligence Committee report—led at the time by now-Secretary of State Marco Rubio—which accepted the 2016 assessment that Russia interfered in the election to help Trump. However, he failed to mention the serious questions raised about that report's methodology and assumptions.
He also cited the findings of Special Counsel John Durham, conveniently ignoring the fact that Durham’s investigation found no evidence of Trump collusion and instead highlighted how the Steele dossier—a Clinton-funded opposition research product—served as the flimsy foundation for the FBI’s surveillance of Trump’s campaign.
“Now, what Tulsi is doing—it’s a little sleight of hand,” Himes claimed, accusing her of distorting the intelligence community’s early findings about Russian cyber capabilities. “Though the Russians tried to break into a couple of states… they didn’t do it,” he admitted, before pivoting back to blaming Russia for hacking the DNC and running Facebook ads critical of Hillary Clinton.

View PlansHimes concluded his meltdown by smearing Gabbard and MAGA supporters alike, saying, “The mouth-breathers on MAGA online are just going out of their minds based on a lie,” and claiming that honest intelligence officials are now “watching their leader do something that each and every one of them knows is dishonest.”
While Himes plays defense for the very officials accused of betraying the Constitution, President Trump’s administration is finally bringing long-overdue transparency to one of the darkest chapters in U.S. political history.
