DOJ Directs Prosecutors to Draft Plans for Soros Foundation Investigation

Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury on two felony counts—making false statements and obstruction of justice.

President Donald Trump hailed the news as long-awaited accountability for the man who spearheaded the FBI’s infamous “Russia collusion” probe nearly a decade ago.

“JUSTICE IN AMERICA! One of the worst human beings this Country has ever been exposed to is James Comey, the former Corrupt Head of the FBI,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Today he was indicted by a Grand Jury on two felony counts for various illegal and unlawful acts. He has been so bad for our Country, for so long, and is now at the beginning of being held responsible for his crimes against our Nation. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Comey, 64, is the highest-ranking former federal official charged in connection with the Trump-Russia investigation. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison. CNN reported he is expected to turn himself in Friday, with arraignment scheduled for Oct. 9 in Alexandria, Virginia, before Judge Michael Nachmanoff, a Biden appointee. Comey has retained former federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald to lead his defense.

The indictment is only part of a broader push inside the Justice Department. The New York Times revealed that DOJ leadership has ordered more than half a dozen U.S. attorneys’ offices to begin drawing up strategies for criminal probes into the Open Society Foundations, the global nonprofit empire funded by billionaire Democratic megadonor George Soros.

The internal directive lays out possible charges including racketeering, arson, wire fraud, and material support of terrorism. DOJ attorney Aakash Singh, who is coordinating between the deputy attorney general’s office and field prosecutors, signed the order.

According to the conservative Capital Research Center, Soros-linked groups funneled more than $80 million to organizations tied to extremist violence, including al-Haq, a Palestinian group declared by Israel in 2022 to be a terrorist front.

DOJ spokesman Chad Gilmartin defended the crackdown: “This D.O.J., along with our hard-working and dedicated U.S. attorneys, will always prioritize public safety and investigate organizations that conspire to commit acts of violence or other federal violations of law.”

The Open Society Foundations blasted the probe as political retaliation. “These accusations are politically motivated attacks on civil society, meant to silence speech the administration disagrees with and undermine the First Amendment right to free speech,” the group said in a statement, insisting its U.S. work is “solely dedicated to strengthening democracy and upholding constitutional freedoms.”

For conservatives, the dual developments are monumental: the long-untouchable James Comey finally facing indictment, and the Biden-era shield around Soros’s political machine beginning to crack.
