Elon Musk Slams GOP-Backed Spending Bill: “This Is a Disgusting Abomination”

In a stunning and rare public rebuke, Elon Musk—now the former head of the Department of Government Efficiency—has lashed out at the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” a massive spending package making its way through Congress with Republican support.

Despite recently stepping down from his role in President Donald Trump’s administration to refocus on his private enterprises, Musk isn’t staying silent. Taking to X—a platform he owns—Musk delivered a blunt and fiery condemnation of the bill that’s been praised by GOP leadership.

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk posted. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.
Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

Musk’s words stand in stark contrast to the glowing rhetoric surrounding the bill, which its Republican backers have lauded as a comprehensive answer to several economic challenges.

But Musk sees it differently. In a follow-up post, he ripped into what he sees as the bill’s most dangerous consequence:

“It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden [American] citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.”
— Elon Musk

The billionaire entrepreneur didn’t stop there. He aligned himself with a growing bloc of fiscal conservatives who are rejecting business-as-usual in Washington.

In a repost of Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), Musk highlighted similar concerns over the unsustainable math behind the bill. Massie has faced criticism—even from President Trump—for his unyielding stance against bloated government budgets.

Joining the chorus are Republican Senators Rand Paul and Ron Johnson, two stalwart opponents of reckless federal spending. Together with Musk and Massie, they represent a critical wing of the conservative movement laser-focused on restoring fiscal discipline.

Musk’s frustration was further emphasized in another repost, this time from retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who offered a bleak but honest perspective on the political reality in Washington:

“It will not get better,” Flynn posted. “The hogs are still at the trough and will refuse to move away from it.
There are not enough honest people in Congress who are willing to stand up for the harder right thing even at this stage of our monumental national debt.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, Musk’s original post had racked up over 18 million views and 176,000 likes—a clear signal that Americans are paying attention.

The bill narrowly passed the House and now awaits possible amendments in the Senate before it lands on President Trump’s desk. Whether it survives in its current form remains to be seen.
