European Leaders Furious After Trump Gets the Best of Them in Monumental Trade Deal

President Donald J. Trump scored a massive win for the United States on Sunday with the announcement of a new trade deal with the European Union, sending shockwaves across European capitals and proving once again that his “America First” approach delivers results.

The agreement slaps a 15 percent tariff on nearly all goods entering the U.S. from the E.U.—a rate nearly triple the previous 4.8 percent tax, according to The Guardian. In exchange, the E.U. must commit to staggering levels of investment in U.S. energy and industries, including the purchase of American-made military hardware.

By comparison, the United Kingdom, which negotiated with Trump’s team earlier, secured a lower tariff rate of 10 percent—an example of what happens when world leaders come to the table knowing Trump won’t blink.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the E.U. will purchase $750 billion worth of U.S. energy and invest an additional $600 billion in American businesses, Politico reported. Part of that $600 billion package includes major contracts for U.S. military equipment, according to the Brussels Times.

Politico also revealed that European nations will now replace their Russian gas imports with U.S. energy—amounting to $250 billion annually for the remainder of Trump’s second term. That commitment alone effectively undercuts the tired “Russia collusion” smear Democrats and the corporate media peddled for years.

While von der Leyen publicly hailed the deal as a success—“the deal it craved,” as Politico described—many European leaders erupted in frustration over the terms.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán mocked von der Leyen’s negotiating skills compared to Trump’s:

“@PM_ViktorOrban on Warrior’s Hour: This wasn’t a deal—@realDonaldTrump ate @vonderleyen for breakfast,” Orbán spokesman Zoltan Kovacs posted on X. “He’s a heavyweight negotiator; she’s a featherweight. The EU–US agreement is worse than the UK–US deal. It’ll be hard to present this as a success.”

French Prime Minister François Bayrou echoed the outrage, describing the day’s developments as a humiliation for Europe:

“It is a dark day when an alliance of free peoples, united to assert their values and defend their interests, resigns itself to submission,” Bayrou wrote on X, as reported by The Guardian.

For President Trump, the deal is yet another entry in a growing list of victories for the American people. Since returning to the White House, Trump has delivered historic trade and peace agreements, forced NATO allies to increase defense spending, dismantled Iran’s hostile ambitions, and fought relentlessly to secure the U.S. border and expand American energy independence.

He has done all this while rooting out deep-seated corruption in Washington and cementing his domestic agenda through landmark Supreme Court rulings.

The outrage from European leaders is telling. For decades, they enjoyed the benefits of one-sided trade arrangements and cheap U.S. defense commitments. Those days are over. Under Trump, unfair trade has been balanced, the money pipeline has been cut off, and American interests are once again prioritized.

What a difference strong leadership makes.
