FBI Releases Footage of Charlie Kirk Shooter

The FBI has released new surveillance footage and photographs of the suspected gunman who assassinated Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk during a speaking event at Utah Valley University.

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot just after noon on Wednesday as he addressed thousands of students and supporters gathered in Orem, Utah.

“The FBI is releasing video of the shooter who murdered Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025,” the bureau announced. “Following the shooting, the individual jumps from a rooftop and runs away from the location. Trace evidence collected from the rooftop includes shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print. The shooter’s weapon and ammunition were recovered from a wooded area near the university.”

The newly released footage shows the assassin sprinting across a campus rooftop, leaping down a building, and escaping into a nearby neighborhood. Law enforcement confirmed that the suspect left behind shoe prints, a forearm imprint, and a palm print on the rooftop.

Authorities later recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle and ammunition believed to be the murder weapon in a wooded area close to the school. Earlier images had already circulated showing the suspect in jeans and a long-sleeved black shirt with an American flag graphic, but the FBI’s photos provided the clearest look yet. The individual is described as a thin male wearing black sunglasses and a hat.

Investigators said the gunman arrived at the university around 11:52 a.m. and climbed to a rooftop overlooking the event. At 12:20 p.m., a single shot rang out, striking Kirk in the neck in front of a stunned audience.

The chaos that followed sent thousands scrambling for safety as Kirk collapsed after answering a question about transgender-related mass killings.

On Friday morning, President Donald Trump announced that a suspect was already in custody.

“I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him,” Trump said during a live interview on “Fox & Friends.”

“Somebody who was very close to him turned him in,” Trump explained, adding that the lead came through “a minister who was involved with law enforcement.”

“I hope he’s going to be found guilty and I hope he gets the death penalty. What he did — Charlie Kirk was the finest person and he didn’t deserve this,” the president said.

Trump, who awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this year, also said he refused to watch the disturbing footage.

“I heard about it… I would have never made a good doctor, let me put it that way,” he said. “I didn’t want to remember Charlie that way.”

Officials are expected to provide a public update later Friday.
