FBI Reveals What ICE Facility Shooter Wrote on Bullet Rounds

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas, Texas, came under fire Wednesday morning when a gunman opened fire on the facility in what federal officials are calling a politically motivated attack.

Dallas police confirmed that two people were killed, including the shooter, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No ICE officers were harmed during the incident, though other individuals were shot before the attacker turned the weapon on himself.

At a press conference, Dallas FBI Special Agent in Charge Joe Rothrock revealed that evidence recovered at the scene pointed to an ideological motive. “The round discovered near the shooter… contained messages that were ‘anti-ICE in nature,’” Rothrock said, describing the assault as a clear act of “targeted violence.”

An ICE spokesperson reported that the shooter, firing from an elevated position, launched multiple rounds into the sally port of the federal building. Investigators recovered at least five shell casings, one of which bore the words “ANTI-ICE” scrawled in blue ink.

FBI Director Kash Patel shared photos of the recovered evidence on X, writing:

“This morning just before 7am local time, an individual fired multiple rounds at a Dallas, Texas ICE facility, killing one, wounding several others, before taking his own life. FBI, DHS, ATF are on the ground with Dallas PD and state authorities.

While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an idealogical motive behind this attack (see photo below). One of the unspent shell casings recovered was engraved with the phrase ‘ANTI ICE.’ More updates will be forthcoming.”

Patel blasted the increasing wave of anti-law enforcement violence:

“These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off. We are only miles from Prarieland, Texas where just two months ago an individual ambushed a separate ICE facility targeting their officers. It has to end and the FBI and our partners will lead these investigative efforts to see to it that those who target our law enforcement are pursued and brought to the fullest extent of justice. Thankfully, no law enforcement personnel were injured. Please pray for the injured and deceased.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed “multiple fatalities” in a statement on X, writing:

“There was a shooting this morning at the Dallas ICE Detention Facility. Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities. The shooter is deceased by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families.”

Vice President JD Vance echoed those sentiments, calling out the growing hostility toward federal immigration officers:

“The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”

DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin noted on Fox News that the Dallas facility was threatened just one month ago with a bomb scare, raising concerns about a broader campaign of targeted intimidation.

“So this location, it looks like it’s been targeted, and we don’t know how long this individual has been planning this act,” McLaughlin said. “It looks like he could have been watching to look at the processing and see what happens on a day-to-day basis at this Dallas field office. But [these are] all answers that Homeland Security investigation is going to get down to the bottom of.”

McLaughlin also urged ICE’s critics to rethink their inflammatory rhetoric, warning: “We don’t want to get anyone killed.”

This attack is the latest escalation in a disturbing pattern of left-wing inspired violence against ICE officers, who are tasked with enforcing America’s immigration laws. With President Donald J. Trump returning strength to border enforcement in his second term, federal officials are warning that hostile rhetoric and lawless activism are now emboldening violent extremists.
