FBI Says It Stopped Planned Terror Attack Targeting White House Event, Five Suspects Arrested
Federal authorities say they stopped a serious terror plot targeting a major White House event over the weekend, with five suspects in custody by Monday morning, according to FBI Director Kash Patel.
The alleged plan reportedly involved a two-stage attack aimed at the UFC Freedom 250 event held Sunday on the White House South Lawn. Authorities say the plot included explosive-laden drones followed by sniper fire directed at people fleeing the area, according to news reports.
Patel announced the arrests Tuesday in a post on X, crediting the “rapid action of this FBI, our partners, and the Department of Justice in a multi-state operation” for stopping the alleged attack before it could be carried out.

According to Fox News, the FBI first became aware of the alleged plot on Wednesday.
One suspect was arrested in Cincinnati, though officials had not released additional details about that individual.
Investigators reportedly uncovered encrypted Signal messages involving 23 users. Those conversations allegedly outlined a plan to use explosive drones against buildings near the UFC 250 event, which was staged on White House grounds.
Fox News reported that the plan called for a sniper team to attack the crowd during the panic and evacuation that followed.
One person allegedly connected to the plot reportedly told investigators the intended targets were “capitalist elites,” “billionaires” or, as Fox News described it, “politicians who received donations from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.”

Patel framed the operation as an example of federal law enforcement fulfilling its core duty: protecting Americans from violent threats, especially at large public events.
“While the result represented the best of investigative work, it was also nothing out of the ordinary for this law enforcement team – we are built to detect, respond to, and bring to justice those who threaten the lives of American citizens – particularly during large gatherings like the historic UFC 250 fight.
“That’s exactly what we did here. I want to thank our great agents and partners, this work remains ongoing and we will continue to update the public as permitted.”
The UFC Freedom 250 event featured seven mixed martial arts matchups inside a specially constructed octagon.
President Donald J. Trump attended the event while celebrating his 80th birthday, joined by members of his family, CNN reported. Several Cabinet officials and lawmakers were also present, underscoring the seriousness of the alleged threat.
The arrests come as federal law enforcement continues to warn that politically motivated violence and extremist plots remain a direct danger to public safety. For conservatives, the incident is another reminder that national security, strong policing, and aggressive counterterrorism work are not optional — they are essential responsibilities of a government committed to protecting its citizens.
