Fired ABC Reporter Who Spewed Hate Toward Trump Allies Lands on Substack, Just One Day Later

A longtime ABC News reporter who lost his job after unleashing a venomous attack on one of President Donald Trump's senior advisors has already found a new platform—proving once again that accountability in the corporate press only lasts until the next liberal-friendly gig opens up.

Terry Moran, a nearly three-decade veteran of ABC News, announced Wednesday that he’s moving his commentary to Substack, a platform that’s become a haven for left-wing journalists looking to bypass institutional standards and monetize their political rants directly.

“For almost 28 years, I was a reporter and anchor for ABC News and, as you may have heard, I’m not there anymore,” Moran said in a video posted to X.
“I’m here with you on Substack, this amazing space, and I can’t wait to get at it, to get at the important work that we all have to do in this time of such trouble for our country,” he added.

The departure follows a now-deleted June 8 post in which Moran targeted White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, spewing deeply personal and hateful rhetoric that raised eyebrows even in legacy media circles.

“The thing about Stephen Miller is not that he is the brains behind Trumpism... It’s not brains. It’s bile,” Moran wrote.
“Miller is a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred. He’s a world-class hater… He eats his hate.”
“Trump is a world-class hater. But his hatred [is] only a means to an end, and that end is his own glorification. That’s his spiritual nourishment.”

ABC News confirmed Tuesday that Moran’s contract would not be renewed, citing a “clear violation” of the network’s policies.

“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran, and based on his recent post — which was a clear violation of ABC News policies — we have made the decision to not renew,” a spokesperson told The New York Times.
“At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism.”

But many conservatives are skeptical that objectivity ever factored into Moran’s reporting in the first place. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt condemned Moran’s comments as “grotesque and unprofessional,” highlighting the blatant double standard applied to leftist journalists.

Moran, who joined ABC in 1997, has long been accused of bias, especially during interviews with President Trump. In a 2025 interview marking the President’s return to the White House after his re-election, Moran attempted to downplay the threat of MS-13, even suggesting that a gang member’s tattoo had been photoshopped.

“Hey, they’re giving you the big break of a lifetime,” President Trump quipped at the time. “I picked you because frankly I’ve never heard of you, but that’s OK… But you’re not being very nice.”

Now, instead of apologizing or reflecting, Moran is running to a platform where he can continue peddling partisan bile without oversight.
