Fox’s Waters Jokes That Omar Will Soon Surpass Pelosi In Wealth
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), a self-styled socialist who has long railed against the wealthy, is facing new scrutiny after financial disclosures revealed her net worth soared into the tens of millions in 2024 — just months after she dismissed claims of being rich as “categorically false.”
According to a report from the Washington Free Beacon, Omar and her husband, Tim Mynett, saw their combined fortune skyrocket by an estimated 3,500% in just one year, reaching roughly $30 million by the end of 2024.
The gains came through Mynett’s stake in a California winery and a Washington, D.C. venture capital firm. The sudden leap is raising eyebrows not just because of Omar’s prior denials, but because her husband’s firms have faced lawsuits and were once directly tied to her congressional campaign coffers.
From “Barely Thousands” to $30 Million
In February, Omar brushed off reports of her wealth, claiming on X: “Maybe try checking my public financial statements and you will see I barely have thousands let alone millions.” She called accusations about her finances “ridiculous” and a “right-wing disinformation campaign.”
Yet her May financial filing shows a staggering reversal of fortunes. Just one year prior, Mynett’s holdings were valued at no more than $51,000, with less than $700 in liquid assets, according to disclosures. By the end of 2024, those same stakes ballooned to as much as $30 million, even as he and a partner quietly settled investor lawsuits alleging multimillion-dollar fraud.
Watters: “Where’s the Gold Coming From?”
Fox News host Jesse Watters highlighted the story Tuesday, joking that Omar could soon rival Nancy Pelosi — long infamous for her family’s stock windfalls — in personal wealth.
“Queen Nancy is on the brink of getting her crown stolen,” Watters said. “Squad member Ilhan Omar’s net worth skyrocketed up to $30 million last year. That is an increase, my calculations, 3500% in a year.”
Watters quipped that the money came from “her husband, not her brother, her husband,” drawing laughs from fellow Fox host Julie Banderas.
Banderas noted that Omar has tried to claim the money isn’t technically hers. “It’s called husband,” she said. “Try divorcing her, and I will bet you anything that she will say she’s worth all of those millions.”
The two also pointed out that Omar’s campaign once paid Mynett’s political consulting firm $2.9 million — raising fresh questions about whether political money helped fund the couple’s lifestyle before being redirected into private ventures.
A Familiar Pelosi-Style Pattern?
Nancy Pelosi, whose family fortune is estimated at more than $250 million, has long been accused of insider-style financial maneuvering through her husband’s business ventures. Omar’s new wealth trajectory, critics say, follows the same playbook — railing against capitalism in public while cashing in behind the scenes.
The Minnesota congresswoman built her political brand on fighting “income inequality.” Now she may face the same charge long leveled against Pelosi: preaching socialism while living like an oligarch.
