Geraldo Rivera: I Feel that Dan Bongino Would Keep Me Safe

Dan Bongino, a conservative commentator and former Secret Service agent, is being floated as a potential candidate to lead the United States Secret Service under President-elect Donald Trump—a prospect drawing both intrigue and unexpected praise, even from unlikely corners.

During an appearance on CNN, former Fox News host Geraldo Rivera, known for his frequent clashes with Bongino, acknowledged that the controversial pundit could excel in the role. Speaking with host Brianna Keilar, Rivera remarked that while he and Bongino have often been at odds, he believes the former agent has the qualifications to succeed as Secret Service director.

“I can’t imagine anyone I’ve been more fiercely combative with than Dan Bongino,” Rivera admitted. “If he walked into a bar while I was having a beer, we’d probably square off. We disagree on everything. But I go back to what I said about Major Pete—I have no issue with his honesty, credibility, character, patriotism, or his love of the Secret Service. I think all those traits are positive for Bongino.”

Rivera added, “If I were a target and Bongino were on the job, I feel confident he’d keep me safe. He would do the job, Brianna.”

Rumors about Bongino’s potential appointment stem from his extensive experience with the Secret Service and his outspoken criticism of the agency in recent years. Reports suggest Trump is weighing Bongino against another candidate, Sean Curran, for the top role at the USSS. According to Forbes, the decision is part of Trump’s broader effort to shape his administration as he prepares for his second term.

Bongino has previously written scathing critiques of the agency, particularly following two failed assassination attempts on Trump’s life. “Let me be perfectly clear: the [first] assassination attempt on President Trump was a catastrophic failure on behalf of the United States Secret Service,” Bongino stated.

These failures, coupled with criticism from Congress, ultimately led to the resignation of former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who faced bipartisan pressure to step down or be removed after the agency’s handling of the incidents.

Trump’s transition team, meanwhile, is actively assembling his administration. According to Forbes, the president-elect has selected several key cabinet members and advisors, including a White House chief of staff, a communications director, and a national security advisor. The team’s broader efforts are reportedly being guided by influential figures and organizations, such as the America First Policy Institute, which is crafting executive actions for Trump’s next term. Elon Musk, among other prominent allies, has also been spotted at Mar-a-Lago, fueling speculation about his influence on personnel and policy decisions.

As the deliberations continue, Bongino’s potential appointment remains a hot topic on social media and in political circles. Whether or not he ultimately secures the role, his consideration alone underscores Trump’s unconventional approach to filling high-profile positions in his administration.
