GOP Gears Up for Senate Push After Left-Wing LA Riots Expose Democrat Weakness
The recent leftist-fueled riots in Los Angeles — triggered by President Donald Trump’s decisive enforcement of immigration law — have shaken the Golden State. But amid the chaos and destruction, Republicans see not just a breakdown of public order, but a chance to strike back hard in the political arena.
Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) is leading the charge. In a memo obtained by Axios, Cotton is rallying GOP senators to seize this moment and highlight what he describes as the Democratic Party’s radical stance on illegal immigration — and their open sympathy for lawless mobs.
“This gives us an opportunity to remind Americans how extreme the Democratic party is on immigration,” Cotton wrote to GOP communications teams on Monday.
He went further, drawing a sharp contrast between Republican values and the disturbing scenes broadcast from California’s streets.
“Americans have a choice between Republicans’ law & order vs. the Democrats’ car-burning, illegal alien rioters,” Cotton continued. “So far, every Senate Democrat who has spoken out has backed the rioters…”
Indeed, the facts are hard to ignore. Streets flooded with violent demonstrators. Vehicles torched. Police assaulted. And instead of denouncing the rioters, Democrat lawmakers have deflected blame — targeting President Trump for responding with National Guard and Marine deployments to restore order.
Vice President J.D. Vance took to X to slam the twisted logic coming from California’s far-left leadership:
“People who were already violating the law are only violating the law because President Trump started enforcing the law,” Vance posted mockingly. “This is the logic of [Democratic California Gov. Gavin] Newsom and his stooges.”

Sen. Cotton echoed the sentiment on social media, refusing to let the liberal narrative go unchallenged:
“Law enforcement officers were assaulted, cars were set on fire, and highways were blocked,” he wrote. “This was not a ‘peaceful protest’ — this was an uncontrolled riot.”

In an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, Cotton delivered a blistering indictment of the Democrat response:
“The threat from the radical left is clear: Don’t enforce immigration laws,” he wrote. “If you do, left-wing street militias will burn down cities, and Democratic politicians will back the rioters.”

The president is absolutely right to reject this threat. https://t.co/n6ISLyLySi
He continued, warning that the left’s alignment with violent agitators poses a direct threat to lawful citizens and the American ideal:
“Democrats put such violent illegal aliens and their anarchist sympathizers ahead of the police, law-abiding citizens and legal immigrants whose communities are being terrorized.
“Is anyone surprised?”
With the border crisis spiraling and Democrat leaders doubling down on weakness, Republicans are preparing a bold Senate offensive — one that may well redefine the immigration debate heading into 2026. Cotton’s message is clear: the time for timid politics is over. The American people are ready to choose order over anarchy.
