Grandma of Charlie Kirk’s Assassin Breaks Silence – Drops Bomb About The Killer
The grandmother of Tyler Robinson — the 22-year-old charged with assassinating Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk — is speaking out for the first time, insisting there is “no way” her grandson carried out the brutal attack, even as investigators continue to release damning evidence.
Debbie Robinson, 69, told the Daily Mail that her grandson was “quiet” and “shy” and had no interest in politics, despite coming from a family that openly supported President Donald J. Trump.
“My son, his dad, is a Republican for Trump,” Robinson said. “Most of my family members are Republican. I don’t know any single one who’s a Democrat. I’m just so confused.”
Kirk, 31, was gunned down on Tuesday during an outdoor TPUSA event, The American Comeback Tour, at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. More than 3,000 people had gathered when shots rang out, killing the conservative leader in front of a stunned crowd.
According to law enforcement sources, it was Robinson’s own father, Matt Robinson — a local construction business owner — who first reported his son to authorities.
Debbie Robinson insists Tyler had no connection to firearms. “I don’t think he ever shot a gun, to tell you the truth. He doesn’t hunt, he’s never liked anything like that. I know he doesn’t own any guns,” she said, adding: “There’s just no way he could have been that good of a shot.”
But investigators paint a very different picture. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed that shell casings recovered from the scene bore bizarre engravings tied to Robinson. One casing reportedly read, “Hey fascist! Catch! ↑ → ↓↓↓,” referencing an obscure video game meme often framed as anti-fascist satire.
The ammunition was discovered alongside a Mauser Model 98 bolt-action rifle with a scope, found wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near campus.
Despite his grandmother’s claims, investigators say Robinson had become more politically active in recent years and voiced strong disdain for Kirk’s message. Gov. Cox said Robinson had spoken to relatives about Kirk’s upcoming appearance, expressing “a strong dislike” for the conservative leader.
Family members also recalled a dinner conversation in which someone at the table declared Kirk was “full of hate and spreading hate.”
Investigators further revealed that Robinson’s roommate turned over Discord messages allegedly from Robinson, joking about the assassination and referencing engraved bullets and retrieving a hidden rifle.
While Debbie Robinson continues to portray her grandson as “a very shy, good kid” who “couldn’t be violent,” law enforcement officials maintain the evidence is overwhelming — and the 22-year-old now faces the possibility of the death penalty if convicted.
