Harris Cancels Book Tour Dates Amid Questions About Taxpayer-Funded Security

Former Vice President Kamala Harris has abruptly canceled several upcoming appearances in California that were scheduled as part of her promotional tour for her memoir, 107 Days.

The events—planned for Sacramento, San Diego, and Anaheim next month—have been officially called off. Harris, who was the Democratic nominee in the 2024 election but suffered a decisive defeat to President Donald J. Trump, had been touring the country promoting the book through speaking engagements billed as “A Conversation with Kamala Harris.”

According to reporting from New York Post, ticketing company Ticketmaster notified attendees that the appearances were canceled due to a scheduling conflict and that refunds would be issued to ticketholders.

Harris most recently appeared at a tour stop in Oakland on March 3. At the moment, she is still scheduled to appear in Denver, Colorado, on April 2. However, previously scheduled California events on April 4 in Sacramento, April 6 in San Diego, and April 10 in Anaheim have now been removed.

It remains unclear whether those appearances will be rescheduled. Notably, the canceled events have also disappeared from Harris’s official website, raising additional questions about the future of the California portion of the tour.

The cancellations come as Harris continues traveling with security provided by the California Highway Patrol. According to reporting by KCRA, dozens of CHP officers have reportedly been reassigned since September to accompany the former vice president during tour events across the United States and even overseas.

State officials have not disclosed the exact number of officers assigned to Harris or the total cost to taxpayers. However, the expenses are believed to be considerable.

“All I know is it’s a lot, it is a significant amount of money,” Republican Assemblyman Tom Lackey, who spent 28 years serving in the CHP, told KCRA.

Prior to the latest cancellations, Harris had already held several California events, including two appearances in Los Angeles, one in San Francisco, and another stop in Oakland.

Her tour is expected to continue with upcoming appearances in Greensboro and Charlotte, North Carolina, followed by events in Columbia, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia, according to The Post.

Harris recently appeared publicly alongside several prominent Democrats—including former President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton—at the funeral service for civil rights leader Jesse Jackson.

During the service, both Harris and Obama criticized President Trump, remarks that sparked backlash from Jackson’s son, Jesse Jackson Jr..

“Let me just tell ya, I predicted a lot of what’s happening right now,” Harris said at one point during her speech, referencing the Trump administration. “I’m not into saying ‘I told ya so,’ but we did see it comin’,” she added.

Obama delivered similar remarks during his address.

Jackson Jr. publicly criticized the political tone of the speeches, urging attendees to respect the occasion rather than turn it into a partisan event.

“Do not bring your politics, out of respect to Rev. Jesse Jackson, and the life that he lived, to these ongoing services. Come respectful, and come to say thank you. But these ongoing services are welcome to ALL – Democrat, Republican, liberal, and conservative. Right-wing, left-wing. Because his life is broad enough to cover the full spectrum of what it means to be an American,” he said.

Meanwhile, speculation is already circulating about the Democratic Party’s future leadership. Harris has been mentioned as a potential contender for the party’s 2028 presidential nomination.

Another frequently discussed name is Gavin Newsom, who has faced criticism from conservatives over his leadership in California. Newsom has already secured an endorsement from former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

As Harris’s book tour continues across the country, the cancellations and growing questions surrounding taxpayer-funded security have added another layer of scrutiny to the former vice president’s public appearances.
