Homan Says Ocasio-Cortez Under Investigation For Employing Illegal Migrant

President Donald Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan revealed this week that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is under federal investigation for allegedly hiring an undocumented immigrant and aiding others in evading Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“It’s being looked at, can’t comment past that. I’m aware of it, we’ve asked ICE to drill in on that case,” Homan told commentator Benny Johnson in a recent interview. He emphasized that because the case is ongoing, he could not go into further detail.

Homan didn’t mince words about Ocasio-Cortez’s behavior: “As far as you know her educating people on how to evade ICE arrests, she’s really educating them on how to be prosecuted…when you knowingly hinder your removal, that’s a crime.”

Johnson pressed him on how it was even possible for a sitting member of Congress to employ an illegal alien. Homan’s answer was blunt: “It is not possible.”

The allegations center around former Ocasio-Cortez staffer Diego de la Vega, her one-time deputy communications director, who recently moved to Colombia after decades of living illegally in the U.S. He overstayed his visa after arriving from Ecuador as a child.

Federal law makes harboring or employing an illegal alien punishable by significant fines and prison time.

Homan has also urged the Justice Department to probe Ocasio-Cortez after she hosted a February “Know Your Rights” webinar, which advised attendees on how to respond to ICE officers. That same month, Ocasio-Cortez wrote to Attorney General Pam Bondi asking if she was under investigation, accusing Homan of “political prosecution.”

“Over the past two weeks, ‘Border Czar’ Tom Homan has gone on multiple forums threatening political prosecution against me, citing resources I distributed informing my constituents and the American public of their constitutional and legal rights,” she wrote.

She went further, accusing Homan of attempting to “politically intimidate duly elected officials,” calling it a “textbook threat to the right to free speech.”

The investigation comes on the heels of Ocasio-Cortez’s own ethics troubles. Over the summer, the House Ethics Committee found that she violated House rules by accepting over $3,700 in gifts for her 2021 Met Gala appearance — including the infamous “Tax the Rich” dress — while paying less than $1,000 for the luxury items.

Her campaign dragged its feet for months before eventually making partial payments, leaving designers, stylists, and other vendors waiting — and in some cases threatening legal action. Internal records revealed staffers tried to haggle couture gown costs down to retail dress rentals online and left a $477 hairstylist bill unpaid for nearly half a year.

The committee ultimately stopped short of punishing her, instead requiring her to cover her boyfriend’s $250 dinner tab from the event and pay nearly $3,000 more to the designer.

For conservatives, the pattern is clear: while Ocasio-Cortez has spent years lecturing Americans about “equity” and “justice,” her own record reveals a habit of skirting the rules — whether it’s bending campaign finance ethics or allegedly hiring an illegal immigrant in her congressional office.
