House Approves Bill to Deport Illegal Migrants Who Assault Police Officers

The Republican-led House of Representatives has passed a major piece of legislation designed to strengthen law and order, sending a clear message that violence against police officers will not be tolerated — especially by those in the country illegally.

By a vote of 265–148, the House approved the Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act, with 54 Democrats breaking ranks to join the GOP majority. The bill, spearheaded by Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.), mandates that any illegal immigrant who assaults law enforcement must be detained and deported.

“There is no reason that an illegal alien who attacks our law enforcement should remain in our country; that shows zero respect for our rule of law or our institutions, and they will not be positive contributors to society,” Van Drew said, underscoring the bill’s commonsense foundation.

The legislation also creates a new category of inadmissibility for migrants who assault police, closing a dangerous loophole that allowed violent offenders to remain in the United States.

Following the vote, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) blasted Democrats for opposing the measure:
“House Democrats just voted to protect violent, illegal immigrants over our brave law enforcement officers. Once again, the Democrat Party proves they are the most anti-law enforcement party in history.”

Polls Confirm: Democrats Losing Ground on Economy

While Democrats fought to shield violent illegal immigrants, fresh polling shows they are also hemorrhaging support on the issue most important to American families: the economy.

CNN’s own data analyst Harry Enten admitted he was stunned by the latest numbers. Despite relentless Democrat and media fearmongering over President Trump’s tariff policies, Republicans continue to dominate the economic debate.

“You would think after all of the waves, Kate Bolduan, after the last few months, the first five months of the Donald Trump presidency, right, the first four months of the Donald Trump presidency, that you’d expect that Democrats would have this massive lead on the economy. It ain’t so. It ain’t so,” Enten told CNN anchor Kate Bolduan.

He pointed to polling showing Republicans holding a consistent lead on the economy, including a 12-point advantage in the latest Reuters/IPSOS survey. That margin has actually grown since May 2024 — just before President Trump was re-elected — when Republicans led by nine points.

“This speaks to Democratic problems on the economy better than basically anything that you could possibly look at,” Enten conceded, noting that Republicans have secured the loyalty of middle-class voters who feel abandoned by Democrats.

Even CNN acknowledged the reality: Republicans remain trusted to manage the economy more effectively than Democrats, a dynamic that continues to fuel President Trump’s populist agenda in his second term.
