House Narrowly Passes President Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ Ahead of Independence Day
In a dramatic late-night session, the House of Representatives gave final approval to President Donald J. Trump’s landmark “Big Beautiful Bill,” fulfilling his goal of signing it into law before the Fourth of July. The legislation passed by a razor-thin margin of 218–214, with two Republicans — Reps. Thomas Massie (KY) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA) — joining Democrats in opposition, NBC News reported.
While Democrats have predictably voted in lockstep against the bill from the beginning, the real battle took place within the Republican ranks, as moderates and conservatives wrestled over key spending priorities and deep cuts. The friction was so intense that the bill initially scraped through the House by just one vote.
The Senate version — heavily amended — faced equal drama. It only cleared the upper chamber thanks to a tie-breaking vote from Vice President J.D. Vance, a rising star in President Trump’s administration and a key legislative ally.
Discontent in the House over the Senate revisions delayed proceedings well into the early hours of Thursday morning. The final procedural hurdle wasn’t crossed until after 3 a.m., capping off days of intense negotiations.
But patience paid off, according to House Speaker Mike Johnson, who told the Wall Street Journal, “There was just a lot of patience and listening to everyone’s concerns and making sure that their concerns were addressed.”
One of the most notable turnarounds came from Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), a member of the House Freedom Caucus. He began Wednesday fiercely opposed to the bill, calling it a "nonstarter." By day’s end, he was on board.
“We found out things that were going to happen, which will affect the whole country in a good way,” Norman said, signaling concessions and improvements made behind the scenes.
While House leaders used diplomacy and negotiation to bring conservatives on board, the final push came directly from President Trump himself, who took to Truth Social to rally Republicans and make clear the stakes.
“Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy. What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove??? MAGA IS NOT HAPPY, AND IT’S COSTING YOU VOTES!!!”

Later, as the clock ticked past midnight, Trump added:
"FOR REPUBLICANS, THIS SHOULD BE AN EASY YES VOTE. RIDICULOUS!!!"
The “Big Beautiful Bill” delivers on multiple key components of Trump’s America First economic agenda. It locks in and extends the historic 2017 Trump tax cuts, and eliminates taxes on tips and overtime pay — a move that working-class Americans have long demanded.
On the spending side, the bill reinforces national security and sovereignty, with expanded funding for immigration enforcement and the military, further strengthening the U.S. against both foreign and domestic threats.
With this win, President Trump continues to demonstrate bold leadership and a refusal to compromise on American prosperity — delivering exactly what the people voted for.
