Illegal Allowed In By Biden Now Facing Additional Charges After Murder

A Venezuelan illegal immigrant who was allowed to remain in the United States during the Biden administration is now facing an additional felony charge while awaiting trial in the killing of 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago student Sheridan Gorman.

Gorman, a freshman at Loyola, was fatally shot in March near the university’s Rogers Park campus after a masked gunman allegedly approached a group of students and opened fire.

Authorities later identified the suspect as 25-year-old Jose Medina. The Department of Homeland Security described Medina as an illegal immigrant from Venezuela who entered the country during President Joe Biden’s time in office and was allowed to stay.

Medina was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault-related offenses, and weapons violations.

Now, the case has taken another disturbing turn.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart told CBS News that jail staff discovered Medina in possession of a six-inch shank while he was being held in custody.

Medina has been jailed since March 23 as he awaits trial in connection with Gorman’s death.

On Friday, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a new felony charge against Medina for possession of contraband in a penal institution.

The case has become a major example in the national debate over illegal immigration, sanctuary policies, and whether public officials are doing enough to protect American citizens from violent offenders who should not be in the country.

Federal officials and conservatives have argued that Medina should never have been free inside the United States. Local and state leaders, meanwhile, have pushed back against attempts to connect the tragedy to broader immigration policy.

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump invited Sheridan Gorman’s family to appear at a rally in Suffern, New York, where they spoke publicly about their daughter’s death and the policies they believe helped make it possible.

Sheridan’s parents appeared alongside President Trump at Rockland Community College, joined by her sister and another young woman who held photographs of the slain 18-year-old student.

During their remarks, Gorman’s parents questioned how government policies could place American families at risk and why the issue of protecting citizens from violent crime has become treated as a partisan concern.

President Trump directly blamed failed Democratic immigration policies for allowing Medina to remain in the country.

“She was gunned down by an illegal alien monster in cold blood,” Trump told the crowd at Rockland Community College.

“This savage animal, who stole Sheridan’s life, entered illegally from Venezuela and was released into our country by Crooked Joe Biden, and that whole Biden administration of thieves and criminals,” Trump continued.

“He was then arrested and released again by Dumocrat Governor JP Pritzker, a terrible governor, has no idea what’s going on in the sanctuary city of Chicago. Sanctuary cities protect criminals,” said the president.

“They’re a sanctuary for criminals, not for people like you, like us,” he added.

Sheridan’s mother, Jessica Gorman, became emotional as she thanked President Trump and Republican lawmakers for highlighting the dangers American families face when immigration enforcement is weakened and violent offenders are allowed to remain in communities.

She also criticized Chicago’s leadership, accusing officials of protecting the man charged in her daughter’s killing instead of putting citizens first.

“Mother’s Day was just two weeks ago. For most mothers, it meant flowers and cards and phone calls, or children coming home,” she told the crowd.

“For me, it was heartache and tears because on March 19, my beautiful daughter, Sheridan Grace Gorman, was murdered in cold blood,” the distraught mother added.

“No mother should ever have to wonder if her child called out for her in her final moments,” she said.

“No mother should ever have to imagine her baby lying alone and bleeding on the cold pavement, and no family should ever have to bury a child because public officials failed to put innocent American lives first,” she added.

The tragedy has renewed conservative criticism of the Biden administration’s border policies. Critics have estimated that as many as 8 to 10 million people entered the country illegally during Biden’s presidency, while President Trump has made mass deportations of illegal immigrants a central focus of his second-term agenda.

For many Americans, Gorman’s death has become more than a local crime story. It has become a painful symbol of what happens when national sovereignty, law enforcement, and public safety are pushed aside in favor of sanctuary politics.

Medina remains in custody as the murder case proceeds, now with an additional felony charge stemming from the alleged weapon found inside the jail.
