Jasmine Crockett Under Fire For Claiming Trump ‘More Dangerous’ Than MS-13
Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett is facing intense criticism after asserting that President Donald Trump poses a greater threat than Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a suspected MS-13 gang member who was deported to El Salvador last month.
The representative from Texas came under fire for claiming Abrego Garcia is “a lot less criminal” than Trump during a segment on MSNBC. Her remarks came in response to questions about Senator Chris Van Hollen’s (D-Md.) controversial visit to El Salvador to advocate on behalf of the deported man.
“If Senator Van Hollen can get down there, if the president can get up here and get to the White House, then I don’t understand why we can’t get Abrego up out of there,” Crockett stated during her appearance on The Katie Phang Show.

“I mean, we know that they admitted that they were wrong. Now they’re trying to double back and say, well, he’s this terrible person and all this kind of stuff,” she said. “But here’s the reality. As far as I’m concerned, he’s a lot less criminal than the person that’s sitting in the White House, because last time I checked, he doesn’t have any criminal convictions.”

Her comments were quickly met with fierce backlash online, with critics accusing her of being out of touch with reality.
“Jasmine Crockett is living in an alternate reality if she thinks that President Trump is worse than an MS-13 gang member,” one X user wrote. Another denounced her as “anti-American,” while yet another claimed she’s suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
“Let’s be real — her Trump Derangement Syndrome is off the charts, and it’s no surprise she’s melting down over his first 100 days,” a commenter remarked.
Another user added, “The sheer clownery on display here is the funniest thing I’ve seen all week.”
Appearing on CNN’s The Arena with Kasie Hunt on Friday, longtime Democratic strategist Mo Elleithee warned Democrats against closely associating themselves with Abrego Garcia’s case.
Elleithee urged caution, pointing out that the party “don’t know all of the details about this guy,” and stressing the importance of not elevating him as a “martyr.” Instead, he encouraged the party to spotlight how former President Trump is allegedly “chipping away at our rights.”
“Let us not make him a martyr. Let’s make this about how Donald Trump and his administration are eroding our rights on a daily basis,” he said during a panel discussion.
Senator Van Hollen held a press conference Friday to discuss his meeting with Abrego Garcia in El Salvador and vowed continued efforts to secure his release from what is reported to be the country’s largest prison.
Elleithee, however, remained skeptical, suggesting that the senator’s messaging may not “resonate with the rest of the country.”
“Look, I think everyone in the White House are giving each other high-fives, and everyone who supports the guy in El Salvador are giving each other high-fives, right? Both sides have kind of gone to their corners and are saying this is the fight we want to have. Whereas I don’t necessarily know it’s the conversation that would actually resonate with the rest of the country,” Elleithee explained.
He further advised Democrats to reframe the issue, making it about the broader civil liberties concerns rather than Abrego Garcia himself.
“It’s less about him, as it is about all of us,” Elleithee emphasized. “And if he [Van Hollen] were to have focused on that — he did it a little bit, he did it a little bit there about a third of the way through, right? — Where he said, ‘Taking away his constitutional rights takes away all of our constitutional rights.’ That’s the place to take this.”
According to the Trump administration, Abrego Garcia was a confirmed member of MS-13, a violent transnational gang based in El Salvador. This was reportedly corroborated by two different immigration judges and officials from his native country. Trump previously designated MS-13 as a foreign terrorist organization, rendering its members subject to automatic deportation under the Alien Enemies Act.
