Jeffries’ Tone-Deaf Rant Proves Democrats Still Don’t Get What Americans Want

In a desperate attempt to stall President Donald J. Trump’s signature immigration and tax legislation, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries delivered a nearly nine-hour speech Wednesday night — and in doing so, proved just how disconnected the Democratic Party has become from everyday Americans.

The speech, clocking in at eight hours and 44 minutes, set a new record under the House’s “magic minute” rule — a procedure allowing party leaders to extend their speaking time once debate on a bill has ended. Jeffries broke the previous record of eight hours and 32 minutes, set by former GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy in 2021 while opposing Biden’s failed Build Back Better boondoggle.

But unlike McCarthy’s address, Jeffries’ marathon monologue wasn’t about protecting taxpayers — it was about defending illegal immigration.

During his remarks aimed at derailing Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” Jeffries warned, “A deportation machine will be unleashed on steroids by this one, big, ugly bill.”

That line, captured on X by C-SPAN, sparked widespread backlash, and for good reason: Jeffries just insulted the very policy millions of Americans voted for.

As Libs of TikTok swiftly pointed out in response, “That’s what 77 million Americans voted for.”

The House ultimately passed the bill in a 218–214 vote early Thursday morning, with two RepublicansThomas Massie (KY) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA) — voting against. Every Democrat, including Jeffries, voted no.

The “Big Beautiful Bill” provides $150 billion in critical funding for border wall construction, immigration enforcement, and nationwide deportations, according to The Hill. These are policies supported by a broad majority of Americans who have watched President Biden’s open-border policies flood the country with over 10 million illegal immigrants in just four years.

While leftist outlets continue to cherry-pick polling data — like a PBS/NPR/Marist poll suggesting 54% think ICE raids have gone too far — the broader numbers paint a different picture.

  • 80% of Americans support deporting violent illegal alien criminals
  • 59% also want nonviolent offenders removed from the country

Even a Gallup poll from October confirmed that 72% of voters say immigration is either “extremely important” or “very important” heading into the election.

The contrast couldn’t be clearer: while President Trump is delivering exactly what voters demanded — border security, law and order, and accountability — Democrats like Hakeem Jeffries are giving endless speeches to defend lawbreakers and stall American progress.
