Jill Biden’s Ex-Husband Charged in Murder of His Current Wife

Authorities in Delaware announced Tuesday that Bill Stevenson, the former husband of Dr. Jill Biden, has been formally charged in connection with the death of his current wife, Linda Stevenson, whose body was discovered in their home late last year.

New Castle County police confirmed that Stevenson, 77, was taken into custody Monday following a multi-week investigation. Prosecutors presented the case to a grand jury, which returned an indictment charging him with first-degree murder.

According to law enforcement, Stevenson was unable to post the $500,000 bail set by the court and has been remanded to the Howard Young Correctional Institution.

Police first responded to the Stevenson residence in Oak Hill on the night of December 28 after receiving a call reporting a possible domestic disturbance. Officers arrived shortly before 11:15 p.m., where they found Linda Stevenson unresponsive on the living room floor of the home she shared with her husband.

Despite attempts by officers to administer life-saving aid, Linda Stevenson was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. A 911 dispatch recording later obtained by TMZ referenced a report of “cardiac arrest.”

Her body was subsequently transferred to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science, where an autopsy was ordered to determine the official cause of death.

Bill Stevenson was previously married to Jill Biden from 1970 until their separation in 1974 and divorce in 1975. She later married Joe Biden two years after the divorce.

In previous public interviews, Stevenson has alleged that his marriage ended after Jill Biden had an affair with Joe Biden, a claim that has circulated for years in political and media circles.

TMZ reported that Stevenson himself contacted authorities on the night of the incident and remained at the residence while officers conducted their initial response.

“Law enforcement in Delaware tells us Bill is the one who picked up the phone and dialed 911 on Sunday night and was waiting at his Oak Hill home when responding officers arrived,” the outlet noted. “Police tell us Bill has spoken with detectives and, as of now, is cooperating with law enforcement.”

In comments made last year, Stevenson spoke critically about Jill Biden’s public role and political ambitions, particularly as Joe Biden faced mounting scrutiny over his mental and physical condition during the 2024 campaign cycle.

“The Dr. Jill Biden who I’ve seen on TV in the last five years is not the same person I married or that I recognize in any way. She’s matriculated into a completely different woman,” Stevenson told The New York Post.

“I just don’t understand why she was so adamant about defending him and keeping him in the race since it appears that he’s struggling. It appears that he’s struggling with everybody these days. I’ve been proud of her at certain moments. I have no hard feelings,” Stevenson added.

“I’m just surprised to see her front and center in the middle of this battle after flying under the radar for so many years. She’s always been very driven. People say she’s the one who wants to be president now,” Stevenson continued.

Stevenson also took aim at Joe Biden’s repeated attacks on President Donald J. Trump, who is currently serving his second term as President of the United States.

“It makes me cringe every time he calls Trump a liar, because I’m telling you right now, there is no better liar than President Biden. He’s just a bad person. I’m probably one of the few people outside his family who has known him for 50 years,” Stevenson declared.

“Look, I’m not a doctor or a psychiatrist but yeah, I felt he lost a step three or four years ago. Now I think it’s more like a couple of steps. Do I feel badly for him? No, because he did some horrible things to me and my family,” he said.

The murder case against Stevenson remains ongoing as investigators await forensic results and prepare for future court proceedings.
