LATE BREAKING: Illegal Whom Dems Brought to State of the Union Has Turned up in Sexual Assault Reports That Involved Juveniles, Police Say
New questions are emerging about a young immigrant who was invited to attend the State of the Union as a guest of a Democratic congressman, after reports surfaced indicating he may have been referenced in past police reports involving juveniles and an alleged sexual assault investigation.
The individual, Marcelo Gomes da Silva, attended the address last week as the guest of Seth Moulton, a Democratic congressman from Massachusetts. His presence in the chamber placed him among members of Congress, the justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, and President Donald J. Trump during the high-profile event.
However, according to a new report from the Boston Herald, Gomes da Silva’s name appeared in two police reports from 2021 filed in Milford, Massachusetts.
The outlet reported Wednesday that it had filed public records requests with both the Secretary of State’s office and the Milford Police Department seeking information about the incidents.
“The Boston Herald submitted a public records request to the Secretary of State’s Office and the Milford Police Department regarding two reports, one from June and the other from September of 2021, where Marcelo Gomes da Silva was apparently named as the person of interest.”
The requests were denied by Milford police officials.
“Milford Deputy Chief John Sanchioni denied both of those requests, indicating that the police report from June 2021 ‘involves a sexual assault and juveniles,’ and that the report from September 2021 ‘involves juveniles.’ He did not elaborate.”
Because Gomes da Silva would have been a minor at the time the reports were filed, details about the incidents remain restricted. Authorities have not released additional information about the cases.

The Herald’s reporting indicated that Gomes da Silva was listed as a “person of interest” in the reports, though the circumstances surrounding the designation remain unclear.
The issue has drawn attention because of the high-profile role Gomes da Silva played during the recent State of the Union events, where he was highlighted by Moulton as an example of what the congressman described as resilience among immigrants.
In media appearances following the event, Moulton praised Gomes da Silva in glowing terms.
“We all know Marcelo because of his tragic immigration story where he was thrown in a detention facility for days on end, sleeping on a concrete floor and not even given a Bible … and yet throughout that time he insisted on helping others, [was] more focused on translating for other detainees and helping them contact their families than even his own safety,” Moulton said during an appearance on MSNBC’s MS NOW.
The congressman also referred to Gomes da Silva as “a great American,” “a patriot,” and “a reminder of what courage looks like.”
Meanwhile, Moulton’s office has pushed back against criticism surrounding the case. A spokesperson for the congressman accused the Department of Homeland Security of “targeting and harassing Marcelo” in a post shared on social media platform X.
Coverage surrounding Gomes da Silva intensified after his release from a detention facility operated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

According to reporting by the The Boston Globe, Gomes da Silva was born in Brazil and arrived in Milford at age six after entering the United States legally with his parents on a visa that later expired.
The Globe reported that Gomes da Silva was detained last year after a traffic stop while he was driving to volleyball practice as a high school junior.
ICE officials at the time said agents were initially attempting to locate Gomes da Silva’s father, who had previously been cited for traffic violations.
After his release from ICE custody, Gomes da Silva spoke publicly about supporting immigrants who he believes have been unfairly detained.
“From now on, he would do everything in his power to support immigrants unfairly detained by ICE,” the Globe reported following his release.
Critics argue the case highlights broader concerns surrounding how immigration activism sometimes elevates individuals before their full backgrounds are publicly known.
At the same time, the limited information surrounding the police reports—combined with Gomes da Silva’s status as a juvenile at the time—means key details about the incidents remain unclear.
As the debate over immigration enforcement continues under President Trump’s second administration, the situation has intensified scrutiny over how immigration cases are portrayed in political messaging and media narratives.
